Inside of door is broken

Any idea how this would have broken. Truck was new when purchased. Can I get a foam at home depot?

It is. Was just wondering if I could fix it myself without having to waste half a day at the dealer

3M sells a structural adhesive, which would permanently bond that brace to the door again. A good auto-paint supply store should carry it.

I installed the illuminated escalade handles on my truck. but originally, i had always noticed that when i would close the door, it gave off a strange sound compared to all the other doors. i was actually thinking it had been replaced prior to being sold. but now i see that the door skin has separated from that bar.

 

i looked up the cost of that 3M stuff, and at $35+ for some, I'll probably bite the bullet and have the dealer fix it. maybe i can catch them on a slow day and wait for the truck as it shouldn't take more than 15 mins to fix. since i've already done the hard part for them.

well, stopped by the dealer and they said it would be a body shop claim. but they would have to run a carfax to see if it had been in an accident first before they would accept the claim. So I checked with a local body shop who said they would have to replace the whole door since it's a safety piece. However, a tech there said if it was his truck, he'd just get the adhesive and fix it himself.

If it just needs to be cushioned to stop noise, then by all means use the foam.

thanks for the link. reading on the 3M website, it almost looks like they create pucks out of the foam, then use the adhesive to attach the foam to the door skin and cross brace. what i hate is that i have to buy an applicator and mixing tube as well.

it probably would end up being covered, but i might have to do some arguing since i tried to repair it myself with some construction adhesive, which would have worked if the tube i had wasn't so old. then they might try to say that it had been in an accident(which it hasn't) or I did it myself when I installed the illuminated handles and ran two wires under the brace.

Yes they might, but they might not give you any problem. I'd rule warranty out before investing in any of these adhesives. Good luck!

Meh. Id just have them replace the door and be done with it. If you put that adhesive on and pressed the skin to it while it cured, theres a chance that the panel might become warped on the outside.
