Lift Pump vs CAT Filter Adapter

Recommended Posts

Just purchased a 2015 Silverado 6.6L with 38k miles. Looks like I'll need to change the fuel filter within the next 5k miles.

I know at the very least I should switch the filter to the CAT filter with the adapter, but I wanted to know if a lift pump makes more sense when it comes to fuel economy, performance, and engine maintenance.

Up front the cost difference between the two is about $500-$600. Will a lift pump pay for itself in the long run, or should I just stick with the CAT filter?

If lift pump is the way to go, which do you recommend, and which GPH? Also, would adding a lift pump require getting a tuner?

Thanks in advance.

No tuner needed.

The CP4.2 is hit or miss, seems you can run one tuned and drain the rails and have no problems or filter the hell out of the fuel and never fuel the engine hard and still loose the pump.

Reason?

IF there were an issue and the filter and adapter were traced back to the culprit for a failure, then your remaining factory powertrain warranty could be at risk. Now, this may have been a fluke, but we did have an older truck (2011 LML) that came in with fuel delivery and running issues, and our tech traced it back to the filter. Customer had the adapter and a Cat filter on it. We yanked it and put an OE filter on, and the guy has had no issues since.

What lift pump do you recommend?

On second thought, should I wait until I hit 100k miles, since the pump is covered under powertrain?

If you are not tuned and still have a warranty then yes you should use stock Ac/Delco filters and do good record keeping on mileage and filter receipts, it's 14k to replace the fuel system on the LML...
