Fitment of Tires on Rims

Hey so this is a really newbie question but I am having trouble with it and all the online resources have not been a ton of help. I am planning on buying rims that are 20x12 inches and have a 5x5.5 5x139.7 -51 bolt pattern for my 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 with a 3 inch lift. https://www.ebay.com/itm/20-inch-20x12-Vision-412-Rocker-Chrome-wheel-rim-5x5-5-5x139-7-51/302247513371?_trksid=p2485497.m4902.l9144    I am simply trying to figure out what tires would fit on these. I have tried using online matching guides but have come up with nothing, they usually just tell me what kind of rim would go with the tire I put in. Would say a AT 275/55R20 117T tire work? Thanks in advance.

275 seems narrow for a 12" wide wheel.  I run a 265 on 9" wheels, but I could run much wider.  315 is about 12" wide.  Are you sure you need a 5 lug wheel?  I thought all 1500s were 6 lug.

Yeah your right its a 6 lug, im not sure what I was thinking. So i guess would you say theres an interval of sizes that work for rims depending on the width of the rim? For example for a 9inch wide rim possibly 265-295 and 12 inch rim 295-325 ect.

In your example size, 275 means 275mm width.  There are 25.4 mm per inch.  In my opinion, your tires should not be narrower than the wheel.  There are recommended wheel width ranges for each tire and size.  Tirerack has great info for each tire and size.  You should do some research on their site.

I would agree with that statement. i just replaced my wheels 2 weeks ago from a GMC 18x8 to an aftermarket 18x9 and my 275/70/18 Michelins needed a tiny bit of help sealing to the slightly wider rim. the tech had to lift up the tire to get it to make contact with the rim to fill with air.

Go to tirerack.com.  Find the brand/size tire you are looking at, and under specs it will tell you the manufacturer's approved rim width for that tire.  They list thousands of tires.
