Shark Fin Leak Soup

I posted this comment on another thread as it is an old topic. However, I believe it shouldn't be forgotten. We have many new members here.

I found out yesterday that I have a Shark Fin leak. It can be a less than obvious problem so I am bringing this post up again to remind new members to be aware. Mine showed up as water drops on the parking brake pedal. We recently had a few dry days and this caught may attention. I then noticed a couple of drips coming from behind the dashboard after a heavy rain. I had suspected something was amiss because it has not been dry under my floor-mat lately. I can easily see where this can go undetected for a long period of time so make sure you watch for this before your warranty expires!

I noticed on my '18 they switched the "drain" from the top to the bottom.. Not sure when this came about but long overdue.

They said they will be replacing it with a newer type that doesn't leak. I imagine this is a problem specific to the 14 and 15 trucks. It took a couple of years to discover that water runs downhill... ;-)

I’ve noticed this leak issue shows up along my a pillers supports....I have a 14....how can I fix this problem or is it recommended taking it to the dealer?

I definitely would take it to your dealer to see if you have warranty. It is a fairly major undertaking for the average diy'er. It should be free. If it isn't then I'd get quotes from reputable body shops. They would most likely be quicker, neater and less expensive than your dealer.

Does taking your truck through automatic car wash increase the risk of this leaking? Being it sprays high pressure on top of truck.

I've been through an automatic car wash twice in 2.5 years. I usually wash by hand. I can't see the car wash increasing the potential for leaking. It is definitely a manufacturing defect and I suspect many go undetected. My wife, for example, would be the first to admit she would have never noticed this leak. It could have been leaking since day 1 and I just noticed.
