Yes.  I live in Central Illinois and my dealer had 2 2018's with the eAssist when I bought mine.

I have a 2018 2X4 LT eAssist (355hp) Silverado and just passed 3,200 miles. Purchased in June 2018. I have noticed the "bumpy" sort of surging when backing up as well. It is intermittent and because of other comments I knew to expect it. I also notice drive line "clunking" as well from time to time when shifting from Park to Reverse or Reverse to Drive. Not a hard clunk but.....noticeable. 

 

Gas mileage has been interesting. We drive around the city most of the time (San Francisco) and if we use a whole tank of gas on city driving only.....we get about 14mpg on average. Not what I expected with an eAssist. However....if we go on a long drive (SF to Tahoe and back) we get about 24-27mpg and that is a big improvement over my 2003 Silverado I replaced. 

 

I think the majority of fuel savings for me is the eAssist motor kicking in to assist and keep the active fuel management in V4 mode for longer time (or preventing V8 mode shift return altogether under light acceleration) when on the free way. 

 

I love the truck, huge improvement over the 2003 LS and kids dig the extra room with the crew cab. Enjoy the thread as well. Keep the comments/updates/experience coming.

Just purchased a 2018 with easiest.  I am fimular  with it as I had worked on electric vehicle programs previous to my retirement several years ago.  First off, you can turn it off if you don't like it.  I travel a lot and wanted the mileage.  I bought the 2WD crew cab. 8 speed.   My first 2WD in many a year, but just don't need it for anything.  I am loving my fuel economy.  I can get 25mpg (calculated) being conservative as I drive, but doing the speed limit.  I drove many electric vehicles for several years as the technology was being tested, so I know how to drive.  I am averaging 22mpg hwy and city.  I don't mind the start/stop feature at all. 

I am loving this so far, will see how it goes but works good for me with the 3;08 and 8 speed.

I’ve had my 2018 e-Assist for almost 2 months. Bought it with 3,200 miles. It now has about 5,800. Mine does the surging in reverse as well. I don’t notice the start/stop since my 2017 Malibu has it. Just change your habits a bit and it’s not noticeable. I drive two footed, so I tap the gas before I need to romp on it. Or throw it in L for your quick stops.

I notice mine you can tell when it’s in gear from park and I’m totally cool with it. It’s a truck. Not a luxury vehicle. I want to know I put it in gear.

I love mine, bought it in July, 19 in the city and 25 mpg on highway

I bought mine in July and loving it!  19 mpg in city at 25-30 mph, 24- 26 mpg on hwy...eassist covered for 100,000 hardly ever notice it restarting, got a good deal when purchasing.

That’s about where my 2028 CC Z71 6.2 was before the bigger heavier tires and a lift kit, 18-19mpg highway now, thanks to the SuperChips Tuner. I only run Super [emoji39]

I like the e-assist a lot. I had a 2007 Avalanche and went to a 2018 silverado. The engine auto stop was a thunk at first, and was annoying, but 5000 miles now and I cannot barely feel it restart. Not sure if I'm. Just so used to it that I don't notice it, but I swear even focusing on it that it is now barely a shake. 

 

The system makes the truck a rocket. It has so much torque when the electric motor kicks in. I can accelerate at highways speeds to pass or get up to speed easy (unlike the under powered, overweight Avalanche. 

 

On a side note. If you have a older 5.3, reprogramming with a superchips unlocked power and best of all way more aggressive shifting.

I'm on the fence with mine due to the lack of performance mods support. It seems no one wants to put any money and time into figuring out the programming. Instead just say it CAN'T BE DONE...complete BS. This includes tuners and performance parts manufacturers. Made me modify a CAI to work and also use L7 to get rid of AFM and Start/Stop since Range won't provide support for the L8B. Other than this...I think it's great. Haven't had much issues with the truck...power is sufficient if I drive it right. If I putt putt around then I do notice that the truck will get lazy and now downshift like it want it to, so I just blip the pedal...or use tow/haul mode. 

Anyone have the brakes swapped on the eAssists? Is everything the same still? If I can't better my 0-100 mph time, then the only thing left is to better my 100-0 mph time.

I bought the 2018 4x4 Silverado crew cab with eassist.  I have mixed feelings. I’m not really sure how the eassist helps with power or torque. The auto stop/start feature is nice if you live in an area where you’re waiting at traffic lights frequently. Kinda sucks if you live where you’re not in traffic much. Seems like it should have at least 3 seconds or more before it shuts off? It’s ridiculous to shut off when you’re just stopping at a four way stop etc. I think the auto start/stop on eassist is better than other brands that use the starter. It just instantly whirs back on. 

 I do believe eassist helps mileage. I currently got 21.5 mpg on a road trip with a couple hundred pounds of stuff in the bed and I actually checked it at the pump, not relying on the computer which always says you’re getting better mpg than actual.  I did notice on a trip when towing my small camp trailer I was getting 13 mpg. I towed the same trailer on the same route in my 2015 Yukon and it only got 9 mpg. Yukon has the same gen 5.3.  The option to jumpstart yourself is pretty cool. Except my trailer light was left on and totally drained my battery, if your battery is completely dead you can’t access the info screen to activate the jumpstart feature. I do notice that the 8speed transmission is very clunky, bumpy and shifts rough, but I’ve read that it’s like that in a lot of the trucks without the eassist.  Another thing  is that I don’t notice it as much when truck goes to v4 mode...I don’t get the lagging sound and lugging like in my Yukon and the regular Silverado I test drove. GM says the eassist helps the truck to stay in V4 mode longer. Only time will tell...not sure what it’s going to be like when the batteries or other components need service or replacing? Probably expensive??

 

Check out the MPG ratings...kinda strange that it gets less MPG than the standard 5.3 with the 6 speed...but it gets better than the standard 5.3 with the 8 speed.

 

If I could go back I probably wouldn’t have got the eassist.

Not sure if it’s worth it since I’m not seeing a significant fuel mileage increase. I do have to say that it tows amazing and hwy driving is amazing as well. Driving around town...not so nice. Clunky, surging, shifting hard and rough. Engine shutting off when stopped for a second.

I love my Eassist, I have a 2017 silverado ccsb4wd Lt Eassist, awesome economy, towing power. A head turner, even in the cold it works awesome.  I would definitely buy another one, if GM ever fixs the look on the new trucks [hate the fenders and wheel wells}]

Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.         
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far. 
    • I guess no surprise my guesses were wrong !, at least now I know if I ever happen to see it grayed out in my own truck as to what is going on.    I never happened to catch my truck with it grayed out, it seemed every time I would test to see if there was an update it never found anything and yet more than once I would check to see if there was an update and there was nothing, then a day later or even that same morning I would drive to town and after more than one engine shut down in town as I did my errands it would pop up that there is an update now ready to install and the only place I have a connection to the internet is at home by wifi so its not as if it grabbed the download while driving. I don't trust these new vehicles due to all the crap they can decide to do while sitting for some days not running and run the battery down so most of the time if I know the truck will sit for a few days I plug in the battery tender I have mounted under the hood and so the only time the truck must have downloaded software was when it was sitting in the garage where the signal is awful but I have that tender plugged in and somehow it managed to download it. I honestly detest all this crap, way to easy to leave a person stranded.    Since I don't trust any of it I don't do the install of the already downloaded software until I get home and sometimes have even sat in the truck to watch what its doing as its going through the process to its conclusion as its not like it is set up that it will tell you the next time you fire up the engine that the update that was initialed actually installed or installed properly. Yes I can go into the updates and see the list. After I go through the install where I feel its safe to do so in case it breaks down as a result, I will plug in the battery tender after the fact to recharge as I don't know how much power its taking just to do the install and that can take a while for it to install. 
    • Thanks for the reply. All settings were correct and the engine was off, as it was supposed to be. It turned out to be something simple. I took a drive for about an hour. I must have had a low battery without knowing it. The voltage gauge on the display looked ok. At the end of my drive, I shut off the engine and the update prompt came up and it updated normally. It’s ironic because one of the features of the update is a reduction of battery drain.
