Aftermarket installation

I have a 2003 chevy Silverado and installed an aftermarket stereo.   I didn't want the chimes, so I bought a harness....installed it and it wouldn't turn on.   I found out the harness did not have pins in the right place to get juice to the stereo.

I then connected the red wire to the wire in the cigarette lighter wiring and now the stereo comes on, but, when I turn the truck off, I still have to turn it off from the on/off button on the stereo, and the lights on the stereo stay on

Shouldn't the radio turn off when I turn the key off and remove the key?

I believe there is constant power to the cigarette lighter which does not turn on/off via the key.

There is always power to the cig plugs. I have a 2017 and I need to pull my radar out of the cig or it stays on. I wish there was a way to power off when you shut the truck off. Hope this helps you. Be safe

Run the power wire from the radar detector to the fuse block and tap into a switched power source (something that is on when the truck is running or key in run position).  It will stay on until the door is opened or the RAP times out
