Yes, the 5 speed Alison was used with the 8.1 big block. I believe the alison sucked away some of the 8.1s power. Great combo tho. Last forever!

Yes they did. Arguably one of the most bulletproof gas engine/transmission combos ever produced.

I've heard that too....that the Allison was a power robber. The 8.1 was still a beast though!

5 speed Alison behind the 8.1 in the pickups, 4L80E was behind the 8.1 in the Suburbans and Yukons which yielded better mpg and freed up more power.
