Center Console relocation

So i had a ford years back with the same middle seat console, that truck i was able to remove the console and slot the holes on the seat to allow me to slide it back just enough to match the other 2 front seats when all the way back.

We are tall and if we use the middle for a seat, its very uncomfortable for me the driver and the passenger in the middle to be so far forward. We typically have both front seats all the way back, so id like to see if its possible with these trucks..

It doesnt need to be exactly lined up with the 2 front seats

But as far back as i can move it would be better than it is now..

Everything i found on the center console is to do a swap.. as much as i would like to, im just looking to move it back a few inches..

Interesting issue.  My first thought is the trade-off would be the leg room for the back seat middle passenger.  I am guessing that you frequently ride with six in the truck.  My back seat often has three but the front middle is only used when no other option exists.  I think this is a case where solving one problem may cause another.

well if you think about it, our other 2 front seats are all the way back now.. and everyone has plenty of space, thats why i opted for the crew cab.. the double and extended werent enough room.

I sat in the back with the seat all the way back and if i was comfortable, then anyone else would be since most of the family is shorter and smaller..

so i think pushing the center console back to the same place the other 2 seats are wouldnt be any different, the back seat is all the same across the back, so the back passenger isnt sitting forward more than the other back passengers.. so i should be ok.. just looking for anyone that may have already done it, the other truck was a ford and that center seat had brackets that were exposed enough to slot the holes so i could adjust to where i needed it..

Still haven't tried to remove the middle to seat yet to see what if any options are available. I'm asking since others have taken the center seat console and replaced with the full center console that the other models have, so was looking for some insight from those that have already remove to do that mod/upgrade to see if the center seat/console has the ability to be modified to allow it to be moved back just a little..

There's two alignment pins that fit into the floor. Slot those alignment holes in the floor and slot the mounting holes in the console itself and it should work for you. I have my carpet out, I'll go take a pic of the alignment holes in the floor.

The alignment holes are the outer holes in the pics, you can see the paint scratched up from me trying to put the console back in before I figured out it had alignment pins. DSC_1184.thumb.JPG.85d60afcf50549ba84a500922e50c054.JPG

And here's one of the bolt holes for the console. The other 4 are the same. I don't know if you'll get two inches out of them, but you might get one. DSC_1185.thumb.JPG.187086023ff7689c4e30b6440d3349c4.JPG

I wonder if you wouldn't be able to retrofit a traditional bench seat to your truck.  These were standard issue until recently. (recent for baby-boomers!)  GM also had a setup where the middle section was combined with the right passenger seat in a true 60/40 division.  The current setup provides temporary seating at best.  I use to enjoy my wife buckling up next to me on long trips but  I wouldn't dream of asking her now.

You wound have to retro fit all the Air bags and sensors into the new bench seat

Are you handy with tools ?   Go buy a piece of 1-1/2" wide 1/4" thick flat steel bar. Determine how far back you need to move the console back and add 2 inches to that measurement. Cut four pieces to that measurement. Mark 1 inch from each end centered in of each of the cut pieces. Drill a hole in one end of each large enough that will allow you use an appropriate size bolt to bolt it to the truck floor. Drill the opposite end of each piece in a size that will allow you to tap that end for the original bolt to be used to fasten the console to the new mounts. Use your imagination to figure out something similar for the pin mounts under the console. It shouldn't be too difficult and will all be hidden when you are finished, unless you move it back so far the floor is exposed in the front of the console.

This is assuming the seat belt is bolted to the floor and not the console. If the seat belts are bolted to the console something similar can be done with some extra work.

Im very handy with tools and metal, used to fabricate 2 jobs back.. Still do from time to time at home for fun.. I think once i get a weekend or day that i can focus on removing the center seat, i can see what will be involved.. it would be nice to be able to just fab up a small extension bracket so that i dont have to mod the actual truck, but i dont mind modding the truck metal if i need to anyway.. so i will def be looking at all options once i remove the seat and see first hand what im dealing with.
