How I fixed my shaking Silverado

Hi all, I am new to being a member but not to this site as it has helped me many times now.

I wanted to share my solution to my shaking Silverado.

To make a long story short the dealer was no help after many tires, rims and balances.

I take matters into my own hands and use dial indicators to check for out of round parts.

What I find are non concentric wheel studs that cause my wheels and tires to appear out of round...

i ordered two Yukon axles and new wheel studs, install them and I am now a smooth riding happy camper! I hope this helps anyone who’s dealing with the same problem I was chasing.

Im sorry for the short post I’m limited on time.

Long story short my dealer was no help at all. They replaced my driveshaft and road force balanced the tires. At first I thought it was the crappy Goodyear tires, but I got Michelin's and the problem was still there. Just had my driveshaft balanced per the forum. It was a iron driveshaft and the guy could see where it would shake at high speeds. Got that correct and the shake is worse..... not bad, but worse then before. I'm going to measure the axles to see if they are out of round next. Can you tell me the Yukon axle and wheel stud part number? Also what rear end do you have? I have my fingers crossed that the axles are the problem! Thanks!

An easy quick check is to pull tires calipers and rotors, put it in drive while on jack stands and let it spin and visually check.

I have the 9.5 rear I ordered these axles

Perfect! Thank you for the information. I have a 2014 as well :). I was going to change my rear diff fluid here in a couple weeks, but I'm going to check the axles first before changing the fluid. Did you reuse the axle bearing and oil seal or did you get new ones?

Took a chance and reused both... mainly becuase I only have 35k miles and took them in and out very gently without damaging the seals. Have been leek free *so far

if it comforts you I’d at least do seals they are only 20$ or so

That is awesome, you should reach out to GM corporate and let them know you figured out a fix that none if their engineers were able to.

Thank you for the info

I considered doing exactly that but the dealer nor GM treated me very well and in short told me I was SOL and that’s how the truck is. They are on their own just as they left me on my own.
I’d much rather share it with owners searching for solutions.

Off topic on my shake, after the axle and a diff fluid change to 75-90 my downshift clunk is minimal to the point that I only notice it if I’m listening for it

Others before you have changed their out of rd axles for a fix. Thing is not everyone with the shakes has out of round axles

Glad you found a fix for yours

Yeah I figured that some people’s issues are different than mine. I just wanted to share my solution so that owners like myself can put it on their to do list of things to check or try for a repair

    • Thanks for response. Leak was right under drivers seat or thereabout.   Had checked by other mechanics and have read other information.   The solution can be a tad complicated and replacing multiple parts And with some.  The issue was still the same.   The brakes do work.   Just that the pedal is softer and goes further down.  But the brakes do work.
    • Breaking News!    I'm going to tell you that I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I told  you.  Then I'm going to tell you what I'm about to tell you on the other side of the break.  Then we're going to break. Then I'm not going to tell you what I told you I was going to tell you.  But I'll tell you something else that is Breaking News just coming to the desk that everyone reported on yesterday.  Then I'll tease a human interest telling I'll get to on the other side of a larger break. Then I'll tell you one item in 20 seconds and go back to an even longer break. Longest break of the night.  Then I'll tell you a fluff piece that takes 10 seconds and sign off into a three minute break while you wait for the next 30 minutes of rinse and repeat on the local news.    In al you'll get about 12 minutes of something, 5 minutes of which is worth hearing in a 30 minute show and 18 minutes of advertising at a sound level twice as loud as the news.    Of course you can switch to cable news and hear 12 different people tell the same four stories in much the same format as the Network News for 20 hours of which the majority will be advertising.  And four hours of late night Specials about things you wonder why you stayed up to listen to. Half of which will be repeats.....   OR you can go for a drive
    • Did you ever figure this out? My 2022 Trail Boss, and now my 2026 LT did this from time to time.  I believe it was more connected to Android Auto and my phone being the cause. Maybe try going for a drive, sans cell phone.... and see if it happens?
    • I have a 2026 Silverado LT, the non bose as well.  Upgrading the door speakers is pretty straightforward. You could honestly go to walmart, or Auto Zone/ O Reilly and get a set of 6x9s for the front, and 6.5s for the rear. You do also have to get some adapters for each, but they are like $10 a pair on Amazon. Then some plug and play harnesses that are about $10 a pair on Amazon as well.  And I would also suggest a 10 pack of the Amazon Basics sound deadening. Slap that all around the speakers and on the open metal of the inside of the door. And your golden.   I am currently doing this with my Silverado. Although I am having a bit of trouble because I am snooby I guess and bought some Alpine S2 S69c's which are 2 way components and I am having to wire from the door up to the dash....  Having never installed speakers before, its taking me just a bit to get everything correct. But if you dont buy expensive component speakers, and just some $40-$50 door speakers. You will DRASTICALLY improve the sound over these stock paper cone junk speakers. I thought my Silverado had an issue with the radio/ sound for a while.  Come to find out.  The stock speakers are just THAT SH*TTY   I cannot wait to have some decent sound in the truck   What did you end up doing?
    • Its all automatic based on yaw sensor data.  If enough incline is detected, it engages.   My recommendation though would be to disengage it before driving off and not let it auto disengage by touching the gas pedal.  The HD trucks use the same setup as prior years, the drum in hat park brake.  But now with an electric actuator.  If you drive off repeatedly over time, it can torque the park brake shoes and can also prematurely wear them out.           Electric console shift will set the park brake on flat ground too.  Pretty sure they've got it programmed to activate every time.
