Sounds to me that the OP has the dreaded combo of some bad vehicle luck and a crappy dealer.

Any other dealers around town?  We have 2 and I'm never going back to the one closer to my house!

I believe the dealers mechanic made a mistake on the radiator and didn’t own up to it. The service writer apologized that I had to return to have it corrected.

Some is bad luck but a faulty coating on frame isn’t luck.

Next Gmc dealer is probably 25 miles away.

My good friend had a 2014 Z71 Black Edition for 59,000 miles and traded on a 2016 Z71 Black Edition (both are leases).  No issues with the 2014 and none with his 2016 @ 30,000 miles.  All visits to the dealer involved oil changes and a one recall repair (2014).  I based buying my 2016 (no issues) on his experiences.

I figure your fine with leasing first year or buying a couple years after a redesign!

wish I would of followed your thinking and bought a couple years out.

Another product you might want to consider is Amsoil metal protector HD. Its about 12 or 13 dollars a can and it will take about 3 or 4 cans to do a truck. It is a very good product and I used it on my 15 and still looks brand new underneath. But that is only my opinion ....research it.

My 14 has surface rust on the frame and so does my 2016 Ford work truck so did my last 3 chevy trucks and my last 8 work trucks.  It is nothing to be alarmed about.  Is this your first truck?  The 14 model is now five years old and they made 740,00 thousand of them.  Every manufacturer out there has some lemons that come off the line, even non-first year ones.  Time to move on to another manufacturer.

Can't wait for the those who know it all and who are constantly in denial on here to respond that this didn't happen or couldn't have happened.  Bet a lot of them have never even been under their truck.  There are like a thousand pages of posts on this website about rusty frames/supports and other rust.

Better yet, time to make the manufacturer fess up and fix their problem.  Not everyone can afford to always dump and run.  Besides, dumping and running just makes lots full of used problem trucks to be sold to some unsuspecting soul who needs a good truck and ends up with someone else's discarded POS.

That happened to my 2007 Ford. Wasn't under coated/rust proofed. It never got to be structural damage though.

This 2015 Chevy I have now has been and it's not showing any rust so far. It's worth the effort.

How often did you do an under carriage wash? My 13 has very little rust, and surface rust at that. I run through an automatic wash whenever its dirty like 2 times a month. This is as important as oil changes...4ba88d88662e7150766c9e0cffbaaf30.jpg

I’ve had a 14, 15, and a 16. all have had somewhere in the ballpark of $1000 of Warranty related repairs before 10,000 miles. Some issues still were not fixed after several trips to the dealership. Disappointing to say the least. Can’t say I’ll own another new GM pickup once the 16 lease is up. Between poor quality and the T1 truck appearance, I’ll either be buying a new Ford or a GMT800.

Rick,

That's for the back up reply....

It's not my first truck but I plan to fix it and keep it for now. I won't trust any brand first year vehicles at this point.

Just saying...

I agree on this one. I also do an under carriage at least twice a month. More in NE winters. My 2017 is just completing it's first winter, so time will tell.

I had a 2008 Tacoma with all the frame issues (recalls), but mine held up great for the 10 Massachusetts years/winters that I owned it. The frame still looked great upon trade in last June. I definitely attribute it to regular under carriage washings.

If you look at the screw and metal bracket attached to the frame and the  spring....no rust but subjected to the same weather and conditions!

The flaking material is the protective coating peeling off.

Wish mine looked that good...notice in the photo not rust on the screw, washer, bracket or spring just the frame.

Yeah you're right, its opposite on mine where the washer and screw have rust, and the frame does not besides the places where the lifts have hit it over the past 5 1/2 years for service. They only salt the roads here on occasion, and I am vigilent about getting it off asap...
