Please don't feed the troll!  First time poster who starts bashing his/her truck is not an enthusiast and probably don't even own a truck.

My good friend had a 2014 Z71 Black Edition for 59,000 miles and traded on a 2016 Z71 Black Edition (both are leases).  No issues with the 2014 and none with his 2016 @ 30,000 miles.  All visits to the dealer involved oil changes and a one recall repair (2014).  I based buying my 2016 (no issues) on his experiences.

After writing buyer beware, let me give more details...

purchased the truck new from dealer, several recalls and TSB’s.

Had to have the radiator replaced recently took 4 trips to the dealer and they broke hose mounting brackets must of know because two were broken. I jacked the truck up and found the broken parts because of noise from the brackets hitting the radiator but also found the entire frame was rusted and flaking.

Contacted GM, senior advisor told me the problem would cost $866. They offered $212 of the total.

I explain this was something they knew about and had a TSB on. The rust is a failure of their process or material but a truck this old shouldn’t be rusting the frame out.

People from the dealers body shop inspection , manager wasn’t even sure how to repair it and another person chimed in saying, it’s not a truck unless it has rust on it!

The whole experience has been just a waste of my time and disappointment.

I’m looking into ways to complete the repair without GM or the dealerships condescending help.

Anyways, I see from the comments that not everyone is experiencing issues and that’s great. Check for rust on your frames!

I do own the truck and purchased new. Not a troll just trying to make any future buyers aware of issues with redesigned truck!

Glad  your happy with yours but I’ve not!

It's so Buick, (Pontiac, Olds) and Cadillac dealers can (could) sell trucks without having to carry Chevrolet's full lineup of cars.  .

really? interesting.

anyway, mine is a 2015 (second model of this generation) with no issues other than 3 stupid minor recalls/TSB's that were corrected free of charge.

Once I'm finished with a vehicle, I'm done.  It sounds like you are finished with your truck and it's time to say good-bye.  I would not be discouraged from buying a 2018 version of your current truck.  I would also not turn away from a 2019 because it is first year of a new design.  GM has prior truck building experience that they bring to the table.  If something fails, get it fixed.

So a four year old truck that is driven in Michigan has rust starting on the frame......that is a big surprise.  BTW, its not GM's fault that the dealer that serviced your radiator broke a bracket or two. That is just a crappy "mechanic" and you should take it up with the dealership.

Sorry, should of let you know the truck hasn’t been on Michigan the whole time, in Georgia near Atlanta for some of the four years including winter!

Even if in Michigan the whole time, why just the frame rusting... lots of other metal parts under the truck and why is there a TSB on the issue.

My point is to simply alert others not trying to promote any other brands.

I wish I had the financial ability to replace it but being retired my vehicles need to last...besides I would feel bad selling in the condition it’s in, that wouldn’t be right to the next buyer!

i plan to make the repairs as best I can.

Hop  if you purchase a 2019 redesigned you have a good experience! I’m just not interested in being their proving grounds!

Got any pictures to show what you have for rust ? More than likely just ''surface'' rust beginning to form . Typical on 4 year old truck with no rust treatment . Might want to check up on a product called fluid film or Crown rustproof and many more .

Sounds like to me you need a different dealership. Unfortunately poor customer service is a result of the employees of the dealership not the manufacturer. My local Chevy dealer gets to change my oil and rotate my tires that’s it. Anything else mine needs I drive 30 miles past that dealer to a different one because my local has proved to me several times on past vehicles to be incompetent.

You live in the rust belt OF COURSE YOUR GOING TO HAVE RUST ON THE FRAME... That’s the states fault not GMs. I don’t see GM trucks dumping hundreds of thousands of tons of salt/calcium/brine on the roads but I do see STATE TRUCKS doing this. I live in Iowa my 15 has 0 rust on the frame because it was undercoated new and I don’t drive it in the winter. If you go look at any other comparable 4 year old truck from any manufacturer to yours in your area your going to see rust on the undercarriage. I’d suggest on your next new truck you find a preventative maintenance package for the undercarriage of it regardless of brand.

I'm in a similar position (age/financial) and fortunately my 2015 is working out well.  My wife assures me it's my last truck so it better last!  If I could buy a new vehicle, it would be a 2018 refresh of my current truck with a V6.  The 2019 variable cylinder, stop/start technology may prove not to be the most effective way to achieve EPA standards so i'd like a few extra years with a smaller yet modern and less complicated powerhouse!

Sounds to me that the OP has the dreaded combo of some bad vehicle luck and a crappy dealer.

Any other dealers around town?  We have 2 and I'm never going back to the one closer to my house!

I’ve looked at the fluid film and took it to a local business that uses Valugard product. I’ll look into Crown.

part of the issue is the wax coating on the frame needs to be removed or encapsulated. Also looked at Por15 and Eastwood products.

Once I get back under the truck, I’ll try to send pictures.

Thanks for your suggestions!

also my son in law has a 2015 with no issues and it’s been in Michigan since be bought it. I figure they corrected the faulty process by then.

Again just trying to alert others of first year potential issues.

Thanks again for your input!
