Drive train vibration

    • Hey guys desperately looking for help!! I took my truckand put 20” Moto wheelsand General graber At2 tireson it. The tireswould not fit in the front wheelwells so I put BDS leveling keysin and a 1” block in the back so it still had a little rake. I have been chasing a vibration in the trucksince. The vibration only starts at 70 mph and up! I have had the tiresroad force balanced ... spun the tireon the wheeland all that Jazz. I then took the drive shaftoff and they check it and the U joints for trueness and balance, it of coursechecked out perfect. After I am somewhat confident it is not the tiresanymore or the drive shaf I took it to Chevyserviceto get the paper trail started. I was told today by Chevythat because I put a ”lift” in it that they would not check it out or diagnosis the problem. However, they speculate since I put the liftin it it changed the angle at which the drive shaftspins hence probably causing the vibration!! They are not willing to do anything thing else with it until I put it back stock. I unfortunately don’t have the stock wheelsand tiresthat came with it so I can do that. Plus if I take the leveling kitout my front tiresrub. I love the dieseland look of the truck, but I can’t deal with this vibration. So I need HELP any suggestions ????? THX guys in advance!!

What's vibrating?  The seat, steering wheel or both?

My 2017 passenger seat vibrates after 70mph on certain roads, seems to come and go as it pleases.  Steering wheel is smooth as silk.  I have a readylift installed in the front, installed by Chevy dealer.  The dealer looked at my truck and thought something in the rear underseat storage box was causing the vibration, I emptied it and it made no difference.  I noticed when I picked my truck up at the dealer they had the passenger seat all the way back and that helped but hardly a "fix".

I think our driveshafts aren't balanced vary well, and that's why we don't all get it. Feels like it's right under my butt, right where the transfer case and driveshaft connect.

My vibration shakes the whole truck, but is not coming from the steering wheel at all. I had a drive line shop check my drive shaft for  Trueness and balance ... it checked out perfect!

Its the tires IMHO. General Grabbers are not that great. Wheels may be culprit too.

Update : I took the truck to my military base with just over 500lbs in the bed. I also lowered the tire pressure a bit to test the pinion angle theory, as the drive shaft may be at a bad angle. Unfortunately the weight and lowering of pressure didn’t seem to make a difference ‘ the truck shook just as bad as it did with no weight. Update you guys after my appointment on Tuesday. My question is when a shop has a road force balancer able to do larger tires will it tell if the tire is bad ? How about the wheel.

I was able to get it figured out ... they road force balanced it and found two of the tires were bad!

Glad you figured it out. Like I said General Grabbers are not great tires.

Hi everyone. I am not sure if my issue is similar, related to drive train vibration or tires, but once I am at 73-75mph, I tend to feel it little especially in rear seats and passenger seat. Just picked up the truck over 2 weeks ago, now with 650 miles on engine. Wasn’t being sure of tires and balancing. Took it back to dealership, had them road force them (stock tires/rims), kind of saw a little improvement on rear seat vibration, but still passenger seat tends to have it and now front end seems to be picking up too. I hope it’s the tires and balancing as I am not a fan of dealership’s technicians doing it. Almost feel like I should take it to a place that specializes in tire installs, places with 30+ years of experience and seasoned technicians. I do get that it’s a machine thing, but I also feel like there is some technician experience thing to it too. And not sure if I continue sticking with the dealership or try other specialists due to warranty thing. So, any feedback/direction is much appreciated.  Thanks!
