TRS Retro-Quick Kit?

I'm fairly certain my passenger side stock projector bit the dust.  The hi beam solenoid no longer moves, my shutter looks like its stuck in the middle of high beam/low beam.  I tested power and I am getting voltage all the way to the solenoid plug but no movement from the solenoid motor.  I am not aware of how to repair this part short of replacing the whole headlight.

 

Cheapest solution to this is to purchase the Retro-quick projector kit from TRS and swap out both factory projects with new projectors.  I will have to purchase DS2 bulbs and igniters since I already have the rest of the TRS HID kit.

 

Has anyone used this kit?  Couldn't find much info and its significantly cheaper than new headlights or other projector styles.  Install looks straight forward.  Found a walk through of a FXR projector upgrade which appears to be similar.  You have to cut the back of the housing up but with a dremel it appears to be easy work.   

 

Anyways just seeing if anyone has used this kit yet or if I am in uncharted waters. Picture below of the current beam pattern at "low beam." The yellow on the right side tells me the shutter shield is messing with the beam pattern.

I am almost done installing this kit myself, and will post my impression once I have some night time driving under my belt.

Thank you for all your help with this I'm excited to test this out but I have to be honest and say that the brackets that Morimoto provided is a complete fail there is so much grinding involved to get them to fit that there is little or nothing left of the bracket relative to the screw holes.

Have you contacted them about this? Kinda odd their brackets would be so far out on fitment. Maybe they sent you the wrong ones

I had to shave my brackets quite a bit too.

If I seen the lightwerkz set before ordering the fastheadlight brackets I would’ve ordered those instead cause they’re metal, fastheadlights are aplastic bracket.  I havent done my retrofit yet, but seems pretty straight forward. I see all these people cutting the back of the headlights open, aren’t the projectors accessable with taking the front lense off as well? Cause I’m going to be changing the LED boards and painting the chrome piece.

It's been awhile since I've posted on this topic but I still have not been able to get my projectors properly aligned. I am planning to cut both assemblies apart for the second time this weekend and try grinding away some more excess material on the TRS brackets.

I also have to admit I didn't do as good a job as I thought I did resealing the housing as you can see from one of the attached photos my headlight became filled with water I probably drained out two cups for the Water by drilling some small holes in the lens I then bake them upside down in the oven at 175 for 30 minutes to dry them out and then reseal the holes with silicone


One other item to note is that the DS2 bulbs and igniters are much longer than the XB igniters amd bulb, thus it is very difficult if not impossible to properly install without removing the entire headlight.

This is why we sell the Hylux ballasts with our retrofit kit. The D2S plug kills adjustability and is a bitch to install. The problem is that TRS doesnt actually do the installs and see how the parts fit. The D2H bulb is the best solution for the retrofit in these headlights. Not the D2S.

Someone mentioned that other brackets are made from aluminum and that TRS is carbon fiber. My only thing to point out is that we are o key holding a projector not a huge and heavy component. And, half the crap in our vehicles these days is made from ABS or other type if plastic. Lol. So we include the brackets in our kits at no additional cost. If a customer feels they need aluminum or carbon fiber that's fine, but those brackets cost more money. In my opinion, not necessary. We have sold over 300 retrofit kits and I can count on one hand the number of brackets that broke. They also broke during installation and not during use

I had some experience and a TON of lessons learned on a previous headlight project in my Civic days that taught me to take my time on the silicone waterproofing.  

 

As far as the igniters mine fit, its tight but I noticed you need to make sure the cord going into the igniters is twisted a certain direction in the housing so it has ample room (i forget which way).

I need to get some inside pics of the light distribution, but it was worth it. The diode dynamics switchboards are also a good option. I’m an ameteur painter but it turned out ok, definitely was a little cumbersome putting everything together. 3 months in without any leaks, fingers crossed it stays that way.
