04 4.8 Intake Plenum Bolts and Crush Washers

Recommended Posts

Looking for the part number for the bolts for the intake plenum and washers as I'll have to remove the plenum to do the knock sensors. Was doing some reading and noticed in a discussion on a different site that it's supposed to be important that you replace the intake plenum bolts and crush washers.

IF anyone has any information on this and can tell me where I can find these parts that would be great. I'd like to avoid the dealership if possible as we all know they're going to cost more.

I have a the Mahle intake gaskets already that the parts store had.

I replaced the bolts on my last truck when I did intake gaskets and knock sensors. I was only able to find them at the dealer, though I'm sure with enough sleuthing I may have been able to find them elsewhere. The bolts also come with the washers on them.

I reused the bolts but used a good Fel-Pro gasket when I did mine.

Another tip when you replace the knock sensors is to clean EVERYTHING when you have the upper intake off and the valley exposed; including down inside the sensor well.

(I'll see if I can find the pics of what I found when I had mine off...)

Also, most write ups will tell you to put a "half moon" or "half circle" of RTV around the back side of the new sensor.

I went all the way around mine, and also put a little where the wires come thru the rubber grommets.

I felt that would be more effective at preventing moisture from getting down in the well and corroding the seller sensors again.

(You ARE replacing the wire harness too, right?)

Finally, toss the idiotic foam blocks that GM put at both ends of the valley. I guess it made sense on the drawing board, but it had the exact opposite effect in the "real world".

Absolutely agree with you and that's how I do them too. The factory idea of leaving the gap for the moisture to vent out is stupid and has proven to be pointless. How about prevent water ingress completely, haha

What my lifter valley looked like when I pulled the intake and the foam blocks.d7c126c53b423626b6793fa5b8d68255.jpgaadbb15b870897989ef3a587e4976490.jpgb52f13794df3a78cf9b2c798bbfca902.jpga4538cd07b30a463373d5be35bae9101.jpg

The sensors. And the foam blocks.
Yeah. They were being really effective. 3e55a0e9469f055488fb8cf6e7b4afd4.jpg2ea43d6137e5664c5500c17a0e03efcf.jpg87033d2f1a111b2699773affd026d9ab.jpg98431487d45469a48cade2725c553625.jpg0ce76c568580bdad195f5abdee319ca7.jpg9a52072cada55f6a8cbb15c64ad1283c.jpg
