Does the Z71 Package Require Special Shocks?

2005 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 with Z71 package (no aftermarket suspension modifications)

 

I'm looking for new shocks online and alot of these say "w/ Z71" or "w/o Z71" so the question is: does it really matter?  Can I buy normal shocks?  I can only find shocks "for Z71" that seem to be firmer than others (where you have a larger selection).

 

I'm looking for softer touring style shocks if anyone has suggestions as well.

NO.

When I replace the shocks on my 2012 Z71 I'm going with Monroe or Gabriel.

New struts for the front so I get new springs.

I will buy the best shock they make for my truck.

z71 typically has a 2" block under the leaf springs in the rear so it doesn't really matter

I replaced all of mine on my 18 with Bilstein front and rear at 7K miles. The factory shocks (Rancho) are horrible! Bilstein 4600 if you have stock height, 5100’s for leveled truck suspension, huge difference
