I crossed Eastern Wyoming a few decades ago on a bike and got hit by a freakish hail storm. Talk about no place to run, no place to hide and it just won't stop!! Tuck in tight and run fast enough to let the bike take the stones was my only defense. Ouch!!! Leaned to appreciate the 'batwing' style faring. Not a tree, not an overpass and not a building in site.

High plains thunderstorms can be a gift from the devil himself. They build all afternoon and unleash the fury of nature on whatever is unfortunate enough to be in its path.

I traveled despite ugly weather once. The first part of May I attempted to make it to Jackson to see the sights. Undeterred by the hail in the puddles on the side of the road. I pressed on, hoping to drive around the storm. Heard a ping, locked em up, and parked well off the road. The barrage only lasted a couple of minutes, but it sure seemed longer than that. Mercifully it wasn't even BB sized, and it all broke up on impact, so Clyde weathered the storm unscathed.

Now I know to stay put or seek shelter when the skies are threatening. Mid July, I had a baaaad feeling about a front that was rolling into Casper, parked in my garage and shut the door, figuring I would leave for Gillette once the skies cleared. Sure enough, not 5 minutes later quarter size hail is bouncing off the garage door.
