OBD-II port speaker popping issue

Recommended Posts

When I plug in my OBD-II scanner on my 97 Silverado, the radio cuts off and the speakers pop very loudly.

Is this a ground issue or a common problem?  My 96 Sierra never did this.

Shouldn’t every accessory, and anything else that draws power, be turned off when you use a scan tool?

The question is where...

I've never had a problem with other vehicles.

Do you know where to find the ground wire locations?

If this has been moded with aftermarket radio or even alarm system, I'd look into the wiring of those as well. Someone may have tapped an incorrect wire
