mreiff Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 I have a 2016 Duramax work truck model, I bought it salvaged and repaired it, I want to add a backup camera so I can see to hook up to a trailer. I asked my local dealer if they can activate the camera if I install it. They assured me they could. I bought a OEM camera and plugged it right in the module mounted inside the frame at the rear of the truck. Took it to the dealership and they charged me $120 to tell me that when they called GM to get the file or code they needed to download into my Body Control Mudule, GM would not give it to them because of the salvage title. DOES ANYONE no a way around this!!! The tech told me it is STUPID that they wont give them the file, but he dont know what to do.
Jsdirt Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 Wouldn't shock me if he's telling the truth - GM has been in money-grab mode for the past 11 years it seems. I'd try a local shop - forget the dealer. Nothing but problems, and huge bills at dealers! Call around - you might have to travel before you find someone capable, or willing.
