Bad Lifter

Only 40K on my 2015 Silverado and in the shop for a bad lifter.  It would tick in the morning at cold start, but went away after warm up.  They are replacing all 8 on the left side.  Still under warranty.  Thanks AFM!

Mines doing the same thing. Same year Sierra. It’s going in on Monday for regular service and to get this checked out. I also have a noise coming from somewhere under acceleration but it’s only during certain frequencies. Hopefully they figure that out too.

Not good to hear. Mine sounds like a sewing machine at first startup. I hear that’s the high pressure fuel pump? 5k miles so far. Planning on using my range afm disable around town to keep it in v8. I don’t mind v4 on highway trips but it kicks in and out too often around town.

I hoped GM had all the bugs worked out of afm by the k2xx generation’ but apparently not.

Either of you use afm disable?

So,  got my truck back. Paperwork says “ found lifters starting to pit”. Camshaft is fine Replaced all 8 on left side.  I asked if the lifters were the collapsible afm lifters and service writer said they are all the same.  Didn’t have time to explain to him how the AFM works.  Got my keys and hit the road.  Pit?  40k miles from what.  Gots to be from AFM right?  Put my Diablew tune back on with AFM deactivated.  I only had it on for a few thousand miles so I know it wasn’t the tune .  Get your trucks fixed change oil sooner than recommended and get rid of V4 mode.   M5 will do it if you don’t want to get a Range or tuner!

Acceleration noise?  Like a light rattling noise.  Mine makes that rattle going up a grade.  Started using 89 and stopped.  Slight pinging?  Bad gas?  My custom tune guy (Diablew) says Exxon/mobile is he best gas.  Try it with 89 or 91 and see if the noise goes away.

No it’s like something is loose and it sound like it’s coming from under the dash or somewhere around there. Not sure what it is but like i said it’s only at a certain frequency and while accelerating. I did have a louder pinging noise a while back, but I started to run 89 and up octane and run a bottle of heat through it every three or four full ups and that noise is gone.

I have my oil changed every 3500-4500 miles religiously. I’ve had my diablew tune in for about 6000 miles now with AFM deactivated. Hopefully they find a similar issue with my truck and replace all of them so I know going forward with AFM gone I won’t have to worry about anything.

I thought my noise was coming from the dash at first also, when I rolled down the window and being next to a concrete divider it was much louder.  I told Lew about it he said to use the highest octain for the tune and good gas,  no mom/pa stations.  Exxon Mobil being the best.  Hope you get to he bottom of it!   When I was running the 91/93 tune it was a lot louder because in CA we can’t get 93, at least we’re I live.  So for  $50 I got a 87/89 tune and run 89 through. No more noise at all.

Yep, had my left bank Lifters changed also. We had rough running, no power, CEL and Stabilitrac lights on.

My 2015 Sierra with 43k has the same symtoms.  When you started it, did it take a few seconds or so til the tick was audible? My idle needs to drop down to about 750 or so then you can really hear it knockin.  Mostly on the drivers side, and you hear it best from under the engine.

Dealer was thinkin its the lifters based on the video I showed them.

Setting up to take it in hopefully this week.

Yep,  same exact thing! After I drove a bit the noise was gone. They said the lifters were starting to pit so they replaced all 8 on left (driver side). How?? Pitted?? 40k?? I don’t get it.  I hope the other side is ok and this doesn’t happen again. Good luck,  hope you stil have warrenty!!

Sure inspires confidence to see how the 2019's hold up in "V1" mode with start/stop

All these gears, aluminum panels, cylinder deactivation, stop/start, weight loss, more low end torque, wind tunnel testing and we are only 1-1.5mpg better than a 1998 Silverado 5.7L with a 4spd in reality.

When do we draw the line and say this is the best mileage we can reasonably expect from these trucks and just let them be trucks? If the EPA didn't have ridiculous consumption demands, we wouldn't be handcuffed into paying so much for all this unreliable (arguably useless) technology, initially at the dealer and again when repair is needed.

Only 5 days after I got my truck back and now I swear I can still hear the tick.  its not the usual tick from the injectors.  and its more intermittent than before, but defiantly there.   I'm going to wait a week then call dealer back cause I know there just going to say that's normal after installing new lifters.  Unless it is normal.  Thoughts?

Just got my truck back. Dealer said the noise I was/am hearing is normal and it is the fuel pump. I know that’s not the case and is more likely the injectors instead.
