Only 5 days after I got my truck back and now I swear I can still hear the tick.  its not the usual tick from the injectors.  and its more intermittent than before, but defiantly there.   I'm going to wait a week then call dealer back cause I know there just going to say that's normal after installing new lifters.  Unless it is normal.  Thoughts?

I really haven't paid much attention to it. Truck is a lease, ending in January......although, I will likely buy it out, but will not own it outside it's powertrain warranty, so not too concerned about it failing.

So yesterday morning I start the truck, it  doesn't make the noise.  I start it again after work, it doesn't make the noise.  Seriously???  Anyway I dropped it off at the dealer last night and told my service guy I swear it was doing it for at least 4 to 6 weeks EVERY time!! He laughed and said don't worry about it we'll take care of it.

Anxious to find out what they end up doing... he said I should expect a call on Friday.

Just got my truck back. Dealer said the noise I was/am hearing is normal and it is the fuel pump. I know that’s not the case and is more likely the injectors instead.

all the trucks make a ticking noise and it is normal.  In my case this noise was a louder tick/tap than before and only at cold start.  it would go away after warm up.  Noise is back,  heard it this morning.  Its got to be the lifters again.  they loose oil pressure overnight and tap in the morning until pressure builds up.   Still,  it never made this noise before.  frustrating...

Whaaaat?? That is not promising.  I thought I read on here someone replaced their vacuum pump and that got rid of the noise.  If the noise is still there, it's gotta be something else, or the engine has taken on some sort of wear... i have no idea!

I'll follow up once I get my truck back and see how it is over the weekend.

this "normal" noise comes from the direct injection.  I'm going to call today and try and talk to a mechanic

Just picked up my truck. From the service report:

"... Upon teardown found #1 Pushrod bent and #7 Intake Lifter staying locked intermitly, found bulletin describing concern. Replaced all bank#1 AM lifters VLOM, and verified repairs"

How the heck did the pushrod bend??

Oh, and my radio favorites arent working now.  Tried cycling the key when I got home but no luck. Its just all black where they should be.  Didnt notice at the dealer, doh!

Radio takes awhile to set back but it should do so automatically......As for the few that have faulty sourced lifters and or pushrods....it happens unfortunately and it's a small percent.  Hopefully, it all works out for ya

They said it’s the high pressure fuel pump and he noise is normal!  Wtf,  never made that noise before ??  It’s documented so if the noise increases or I break down it’s there ass!

Dang sorry to hear that man.  Need another dealer to check it out!  I wonder if you have a bent pushrod like I did.  I'm not much of a mechanic though and have no idea if a bent pushrod would make a knocking noise in the way it did for us.  I just knew that my engine was not sounding like day one :-)

The high pressure fuel pump, injection pump, does make a ticking sound. You will notice it when you are in a drive-thru with the window down or parked close to a wall. This has been a signature sound since the LS family engines. It will sound like a lifter is lightly tapping slowly, a lifter issue will be a faster paced ticking at idle, fast that the injection pump noise.

It's pretty easy to tell, so if you know it is not the injection pump I would recommend that they pull your valve covers off to have a look.
