Sierra 1500 off-road upgrades

Hello everyone,

I off-road my 2012 Sierra 1500 almost every week on dry dirt, rocky roads, and sand.

I wonder what should I consider to upgrade in regards to led driving lights, wheels, tires and, of course, suspension. I started to believe that OEM suspension is too soft and weak as I have had different issues every other trip, especially with struts.

How fast do you drive these roads vs how fast do you want to drive them?

Are you hitting your bump stops?

What is your budget?

Maybe just some shocks and good tires

 

I hate my rancho base shocks, they are very bouncy.  They were pretty good when new but they are long in the tooth at 7 -8 years old.

 

My truck did so poorly on that washboard style road when I was in Colorado it made my new intermediate drive shaft start wobbling again :-/

 

I have torsion bars tho...

I have a similar suspension goal in mind for my 2011 Silverado 4x4.  I've been trying to figure out what would provide the best bang for the buck sort of speak.  So far I've read recommendation on the Bilsteins 5100 ride height adjust struts.  I hae not done too much research as of yet since I'm still building my truck upgrade fund.  Hope that gives something to contemplate until the Chevy truck gurus chime in and give us the lowdown.

If I drove off-road every day, I would put my money into shocks and tires.

Heck, I don’t off-road daily and that’s still where I spent my money.

A good off-road suspension will provide a good ride. Better than stock.

Don’t fall for the stiff off-road suspension nonsense.

But you need to prioritize your budget.

Some guys will put $1500 into wheels and another $1500 into paint protection, and are fine with $300 shocks.

I’m the opposite.
