I just bought a 2006 Silverado LTZ 3500. Test drove it in the daylight, after purchasing and taking it on its first after dark run, I noticed all of the dash modules lights and instrument cluster lights do not function. Turns out my instrument cluster has been rebuilt at some point, all steppers are X27. I’ve tested every fuse on the truck and all are functioning. I replace the headlamp module which has the dimmer rheostat, but that did not work to solve the problem. Have any of you ever had this problem and if you’ve ever fixed it, please tell me how. Thank you in advance.

All gauges work, but all illumination bulbs on the cluster and on the surrounding dash modules (ie 4wd, headlamp & climate) do not light up while driving at night.

I also have an 06 lbz silverado LT. I am having this exact issue with my truck as well. No dash cluster lights, no climate control back lights, no 4x4 indicator lights. I have checked fuses, wiring, back light bulbs, and have replaced the 4x4 selection switch, the headlamp switch, and the ambient light sensor. I still have the same problem. I have found the wire that supplies the 12v to the cluster, and am able to illuminate the cluster by sending 12v through this wire. I have also traced this wire to the bcm. I have run several tests, and have found this wire is not receiving 12v from the bcm. This is where I am at this point. Haven't given up, just keep looking for the next step.

You have checked ALL the fuses?  I've found that non-obvious/related fuses can cause the BCM to not work right (as in, not power various items it drives).

Yes, i have checked all fuses. I am actually replacing the gear selector at the moment. Unrelated issue with the tow haul switch. But yes, all fuses look good and check good with a meter as well.

Today I removed the BCM from 2006 silverado LBZ . I found some damaged components inside of the BCM.

Did your BCM repair cure the problem? Having the same issue 06 Duramax. Changed out all the little incandescent bulbs for blue LEDs...worked fine for a couple of days then quit working. All other dash lights work, just no backlighting.

...just fyi, clay hasn't returned to the site since joining and making that one post, 5 years ago.  you aren't going to get a response from that user.

I would suggest starting with testing if the backlighting in the cluster itself works, and perhaps if the plug to the cluster is getting power & ground for the backlight circuit.
