I backed into something and broke ONLY the clear exterior plastic...…….so am I in for a $300 total replacement, or can I somehow just replace the exterior plastic?

If you can find a U-Hual rental, or anything similar, you can just "swap" them.

I've never thought of renting a truck to swipe parts off of.  Tranny slipping? No problem, rent a u haul and swap it out

Would have cost $700 for part and install at the stealership, but I found one on eBay for $350, and install looks easy.

Thanks for the advice everyone.

When you pull the light assembly out, be careful. There are two parts that are “forced” into the body. Very easy to break the tabs, did this when I put the LED back up lights in my truck.

I am sure that you heard the stories from the 60’s, especially with the Hertz Mustangs. Very common the V 8 cars came back with a V 6.
