Intermittent delayed shift

Recommended Posts

Hi. New to this forum and my truck. I have a new 5.3 with a 6 speed. 90% of the time I have no issue but once or twice a day if quickly shifting from reverse to drive the tranny will delay engaging drive for a second or two which results in what feels like it slipping and then banging into drive. I can't reproduce it on demand but it will occur on occasion. If I wait 2 or 3 seconds it will never happen but when backing out of a driveway or making a quick U turn it will sometimes surprise me by exhibiting this behavior. Like I said if trying to reproduce it I can quickly shift it all day in my driveway and there is no delay.....it seems to have a mind of its own. Has anyone else experienced anything like this, or have some input on what may be causing it? The truck is a 2019 Tahoe but I figured I would post this question here as there seem to be a lot more Silverado owners giving input than Tahoe owners. I had asked on another Tahoe forum and there wasn't much posting traffic there. Being the drive trains are the same I'm hoping I might have more luck here. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I've noticed the same thing recently, not worth taking it in over just for that but if the solution is to wait an extra 2-3 seconds I'm Ok with that.

yes it does and yes it can be changed. It is a a safety feature plus part of the table in other parts of the software for the TM table and commanded TB %. and rpm. I changed all my values. But it is best to come to complete stop foot on brake to shift. also as you could have guessed command affects afm/DOD. As stated the rpm values and fuel table change based on engine temp so funny things happen under 180*.

Yeah I never shift it while its still moving in reverse. I've never had a vehicle that did this before. I can live with it but my concern is that down the line it will get worse being it shouldn't be doing it in the first place. I probably won't keep it past the 5 year warranty but you never know, and it would suck if it got worse and I had to pay out of pocket to fix it. Also if I ever decided to tune it I'm sure GM would blame the issue on that if it gets worse. Whether it's a minor nuisance at this point or not I feel something isn't right. I was hoping it might have been a somewhat common issue that could be fixed with a flash or something else non invasive.
