Mod Tri-Mode Steps to extend when placed in Park?

Can GM tri-mode steps be made or modded to automatically extend when placed in Park and remain extended until placed back in Gear(Rear, Drive, Neutral)?

I use the step as a door guard to prevent dings etc and would just like it to due it on park so I don't have to remember to hit the button. Thanks

That’s actually a good idea if it’s about the height of most car doors.

I’m that guy that will park 10 spaces away from the closest car in even the heaviest rains, but I didn’t think about the running boards as an extra layer of protection.

The only way I could think of to do this is tap the Neutral safety switch circuit to close the boards when the truck is in anything but park and extend them when placed in park.

Many cars are at the height some aren't but I also find they park just a little further away when they extend out to park beside you. Trucks not as much. If lifted it probably covers even more vehicles.

Where is the Neutral Safety switch circuit located? Do you think it should tie into the wires used on the door panels for push button opening or is there a fuse tap to provide the signal... I have not yet had a chance to take any readings from the wiring (don't want to overload any electrical items before I do anything.) Thanks for the suggestion.

I would have to assume the switch (if there is one) is in either the steering column or at the base of the column under the dash. @pgamboa could probably provide a little more input as to locations to tap the circuit if it exists.
