34x12.5 on 18 Z71 w/ Fox 2.0s question

Hello everyone. Ive searched and searched and finally have to take the walk of shame with another wheel fitment post. Can you guys give me your opinions? I have a 2018 Z71 with the Fox 2.0 Coilovers and rear shocks. I just put Method NV305(5.75) 18s with BFGoodrich KO2 285/65/18s on. Im really happy with the setup, feels great but i wouldn't mind beefing up the tires a bit as there is some room. I was wondering if any of you think id have a rubbing issue if i were to go with the 34x12.5 KO2 which would run exactly an inch taller and an inch wider then my current setup. It would be a 33.5inch tall tire. You think i could get away with it? Here is a pic of how its currently sitting. It seems i have a bit of extra space for a bigger tire. Thanks for any help in advance! Have a good one.

To answer your question, no. Do not bash in your trucks metal just to add bigger tires, it’s trashy and you’ll later regret doing it. You’ll be able to add much bigger tires if you just “LIFT” it! You’ve spent approximately $900 on just the front coil overs. Sell them and do a Zone lift. Lift costs approx $950 plus install. If you’re on a budget. I’d recommend a 5” bracket lift for the same from Rough Country. Bracket lifts do not widen your track width or turning radius or cause you to need spacers, keeps it all stock geometry. Your trucks suspension is your trucks building foundation and how you set it up affects more than just looks, ride quality and performance is critical.

If you’re into higher end lifts that will take your truck to a much higher level with extremely high reliability then I’d look at CST, extremely high quality welds, reinforcement gussets unlike any other lift. I’ve got an 18 CC, Z71 6.2 with the CST 4.5” Lift and absolutely love it for all the reasons I’ve already mentioned. If you don’t mind having your wheels forced out in the front causing you to buy new wheels and rear controversial spacers then get a Zone or BDS, ProComp and a few others. Lift don’t level, your ride quality suffers more with blocks. Sorry, rambling on, like people to know what they’re getting themselves into and what’s available. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to keep the ride height somewhat practical as i travel a lot and in Southern California there are always parking garages so i didnt want it to get a pain to get around when im working. Otherwise i would have done a decent lift and been done with it lol. But that was the main reason for choosing the Fox 2.0s.

if it rubs just do the norcal mod takes like 20mins per side

I was watching a few videos on how they do that.

Fully understand, that’s why I went with a 4.5” lift and if you can get into your 7’ garage then the clearance should be the same for a parking garages and as far as ride quality, I’m constantly looking for excuses to drive my truck (mostly due to high end coil overs) which is the main reason I went with CST. Good luck with your decisions, be safe!

theres a trim piece that covers the mod area in the k2xx trucks....you cant tell any modification has been done

its either a couple grand for a lift to fit big tires or like $200 in easy mods

I have 17x9 Method 315 with -12mm offset.  My wheels stick out about 1.25" more than yours, so width shouldn't be an issue.  My tires are P285/70R17 so the same OD as yours.  However, I did have to zip tie the fender liners back so the tires wouldn't rub at full lock.  I still hear a slight rub if I hit a bump while backing up at lock.  If you go 1" more in diameter I think the rubbing will be more severe. You might have to cut metal in the back of the front wheel well area.

What is your wheel offset? I run 33x12.5's on a 2.5" level. I have minor rub on the UCA and swaybar at full lock. This is only because the factory GMC AT snowflake wheels are a +27mm offset. I think if I was around +18mm I would have no rub at all. If you go to a 0 or a negative offset, you can start rubbing the bumper/fender liner. I also have Gatorback mudflaps with stainless bolts so that takes another 1/2" away from my overall tire diameter clearance. I would think with a +12 to +18 offset and no mudflaps, and a true 2.5" off lift you should be able to fit a 34". If you have a preferred tire shop that likes you, they can mount one 34" on the fronts and check it in their shop before you buy new ones from them. I did this with my 2010 because I went to aftermarket wheels and wanted to check the max size I could with that new offset.

Nice setup man looks really great.

Thanks for the replies everyone i appreciate it. I believe the wheel is an 18 offset, its a Method NV305 5.75. I have a buddy at the shop that i could try it with. So i guess best thing to do is just go down to tire store and see if i can get the fronts mounted as a test. The guy has been there my whole life hopefully he will be cool about it.

With the Fox 2.0s and level, I got some full lock rubbing with 34.3 x 11.6 on +1 wheels after trimming and removing mud flaps, and no rubbing at all with 33.2 x 10.8 adding flaps back.
If I could do it again, I'd either stick with some rubbing, or do a CST 4.5.
But I like what I've got too.

I just sold my truck and got an 18 sierra. BUT... i had 18" Method grids and ran 305/65r18s on a 2" level for the last year or two with no issues. It only rubbed the felt liner at one particular spot in reverse.(And you can zip tie that to solve the problem.)
These are 34" tires that are about 12.2" wide.

I ran falken wildpeak AT3s and LOVED them. Much better than the BFGs i had before.
The BFGs ride great, but the gas mileage of these falkens is just as good and i was running 275s in the BFG.
So i went taller, wider and heavier and didn't lose fuel mileage. And i had the 5.3 in the other truck.

Check out the build thread in my signature for pictures.

The CST Lift gives a much better ride quality than leveled or lifts that widen track widths and turning radius. I jumped out of the harsh riding 2.25” level I had for a few months which consisted of front and rear spacers and Bilstein 5100’s and landed on the CST 4.5” Lift which immediately noticed smoother ride and especially handles big dips much better with the CST Coil Overs and rear Piggyback resi’s. It’s always going to ride a bit harsher with E rated tires no matter what anyone does when compared to stock but it’s definitely as close to stock ride when compared to other lifts. CST is a far superior product. Good luck
