Keith Gonyea Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 I'm having a strange overheating problem. I have a 2000 Silverado 4x4 with auto trans. When in park or neutral there ISN"T a problem. While in drive but AT A STOP the truck starts to overheat. After purchasing the truck about a year ago i replaced the radiator, fan clutch, upper and lower radiator hoses, water pump and thermostat. All was done prior to the truck going out to the farm and not wanting to do work on the truck out there. Cooling system was flushed including the heater core. Radiator does have a trans cooler portion built in that is connected to the transmission. Im out of ideas. Best i can figure is it has something to do with the trans but i just don't know. I do believe there is a small head gasket leak as there is some white smoke at idle but not under load or at speed. Any idea on headgasket replacement cost? Is it worth it to try a head gasket in a bottle type fix. This is a farm truck that gets maybe 1k miles per year. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
riverbanks Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Head gasket, you build heat and pressure with rpm,a weak link is the culprit, bummer
CadillacLuke24 Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 I would avoid the head gasket in a bottle crap. It may work temporarily, but it tends to gunk up passages in general, and can make things worse.
Keith Gonyea Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 What am i looking at cost wise for a head gasket?
