Side view mirror issues

So I just picked up a 2015 Sierra SLE this weekend and the power side view mirrors only adjust horizontal (left and right) but not vertical (up and down) on both sides.  The manager at the dealership said this is normal and that I have to adjust it by hand to go up and down (told him I also have a 2014 Silverado LT and its moves in all 4 directions and why would GM put a 4 way switch if it only moved 2 directions, plus who has ever heard of a power mirror only moving 2 directions?!).

I ended up just getting up the truck as I got the price I wanted and because the manager was not interested in having his shop look into it prior to a sale, but the truck did come with a 3 month warranty that does cover the mirrors that has $0 deductible, I would just rather save myself the trouble of scheduling an appt for the truck to be looked at if its just a loose connection or something.

I tried to do a search but did not find much info about mirrors only moving 2 out of 4 directions.

Is it an easy trouble shoot? I have found videos on how to open up the door panel.  I am thinking something with the switch since both sides have the same issue vs both motors going bad?

I just got the 2014 silverado a few months ago and have not had a chance to do many mods to it yet (trying to keep it to a minimum as the reason for 2 similar trucks is for a surprise birthday present for the twins in a few months and Id rather spend money on upgrades on the vehicles I'll drive more regularly).

so I got a new switch and the passenger side works in all 4 directions, but driver's side mirror only goes left and right still. I switched it out with the switch on my slivered and still the same thing.  Any ideas on where to look next?

Sounds like the motor in the driver's side mirror head has gone bad. I've never changed on,  but you tube has videos...

So I went out and looked at the truck today and now its back to BOTH sides not going up and down, only side to side.  This is a new OEM switch that last night was working on the right side, but left side only going side to side.  would you still think its the mirror heads as the right side was working last night when I put the new switch in?

just to update this in case this happens to anyone else.  I finally had time to take the truck in and get looked at.  They were stumped too, as they put in 2 new switches and same thing happened. then they replaced both motors, did not work.  Then decided to keep the truck and spent the last 2 days tracing the wiring.  Turns out during previous ownership, someone took apart the door and when they went to hook things back up, bent 2 of the prongs in one of the plugs, so it was shorting out and burning up the switches.  They fixed the connection, got a new switch, now mirrors work in all 4 directions! despite what the selling manager tried to tell me that only SLT and up trim levels had 4 way mirrors and SLE was 2 way...

    • Real Truck handles the warranty via GM.  We don't submit a warranty claim with GM, we have to submit it with Real Truck with a specific email/phone number.  Real Truck determines if the issue is covered or not based on the issue and pictures submitted.
    • Some clarification may help with some of these issues.   - Rev Industries is/was the division of BAK (now Realtruck) that makes covers under the OEM names.  So if you see one with a Ford logo on it, or if you are buying the GM Accessories cover, you are essentially buying a BAK G2 cover with different branding.   - Rev Industries now markets under RealTruck "Advantage."   - As of May 1, 2025, the Advantage covers now have a 5 year warranty.  Anything before that was a 36/36K warranty.   - Parts for the covers are available from Realtruck or BAK.  The email address to reach them is [email protected] or you can call them at 818-365-9000   - If the entire cover has to be replaced, you have to go through your local GM dealer.  Service dept opens an RO, notes the damage and submits it as a warranty claim.  Keep your paperwork handy so they can confirm when you purchased it and it's within the warranty timeframe.  Once the warranty claim is approved, Parts orders the replacement cover.  When it arrives at the dealership, service will remove and install the new one for free as labor is included under warranty.   - The Advantage covers are not the latest and greatest Gen 3 covers.  They still use the old school clamps, elevator bolts, etc...If you want the newer technology, consider buying your cover in the aftermarket world.  That way, if you have an issue you can deal directly with the manufacturer.   - Finally, RealTruck has a program with many of their authorized dealers that doubles the warranty to 10 years if the authorized dealer does the install.     Hope this helps.
    • Welcome to the group!  My '22 just crossed 150K miles.  Runs perfectly.  Oil pump belt will be done in the next 30 days or so and onward hopefully for another 150K.  Love the truck.
    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
