L86 6.2 headers 1 3/4 vs 1 7/8

Recommended Posts

Depends on if you plan on going with heads, cam or even forced induction down the road. If you plan on leaving the engine internals stock the 1 3/4" headers will do just fine.

I have the 5.3.  Went with 1-3/4.  I "may" do a blower in the future but most likely will not.  Therefore I went with 1-3/4" and in the unlikely event I go the blower route the 1-3/4 will be a big improvement over stock manifolds and do just fine for the blower.  Or at least that was the conclusion I came to.  But honestly, I am probably not the most credited source on this subject.  But I did get input from Kooks and my tuner before making the decision between 1-3/4 vs 1-7/8.

6.2 is a 376 cubic inch small block with very high flowing heads stock. 1 7/8 is the way on these gen 3 LT's (not the 5.3). Just find someone who will tune it who knows what they are doing and you shouldn't loose bottom end and should gain everywhere else over the 1 3/4.  Seen camaro LT dynos where the 1 7/8 headers picked up everywhere in the curve over the 1 3/4. On a stock 350 LS no, LT 5.3 no, 6.2 L86 yes.
