2000 Silverado newer engine ecm help

I have a 2000 Silverado that someone put a newer 5.3 engine in. The check engine light is on and when you read the codes it comes up as problems with the egr. The newer engine does not even have a egr. So I've been driving it this way a couple years. I ended up with an 03 Yukon that is wrecked but the drive train is good. It appears to have the exact same engine that was swapped into my 2000 silverado. I wish to put the ecm out of the 03 in my 2000 in hopes up picking up some power and economy and also making the check engine light related to the egr go away. How do I go about doing this? Do I have to get it flashed? Is the ecm Vin # specific?  is there a relearn procedure I need to follow? I appreciate all well informed answers.

What you want is not possible, not without re-doing everything. It would require converting all the wiring and electronic parts, which you don't want to do.

The 99-02 trucks run a P01 computer, then 2003-2007 use a  P59 PCM computer which is different internally and file wise. The P59 in that yukon is drive by wire throttle, yours is cable throttle body.

The EGR can be shut off with a tune and the engine tune itself can be "tuned" at the same time.

Your best bet to find someone local that does tuning or find a shop that can do a custom tune to your vehicle. Don't expect much power gain because you aren't adding any performance parts. You'll just be able to make the truck react smoother/faster/more crisp with some changes to the engine and transmission calibration.
