4l80e getting stuck in first gear

I'm having trouble with my Silverado it has the 4l80e tranny it seems like 1st gear ..when I take off from a dead stop it revs up to 5k rpms or higher before it shift to 2nd gear on low to medium trotle but if I hammer the gas pedal it some times don't go into 2nd gear...I have to let go of the gas pedal for it to go into 2nd gear it recently try to overheat on me but I turn of the truck and let it cool down it got as high as 240° if anybody knows what could be the problem let me know I'll appreciate any tip

If it's getting too hot, first thing to check is the cooling stack up front, that the fins are clean and trans fluid flows through it ok.

Second thing would be to check fluid level (there's a fairly detailed process to go through to do this right, at least in my owners manual there is).

 

It'll also heat up running in a lower gear than it wants to (at least, that's how I warm up my trans fluid to check fluid level).

 

As for shifting, check for tcm codes.  You'll need a code reader that can specifically read tcm codes, most of the cheap ones don't.

I took out the pan and check all the sensors and they checked out fine ...so don't think is that

On a 4l60e, this was a common problem with the 1-2 accumulator. Piston cracked or stuck, spring broken. Accessible with pan off.
