2011 5.3 Camshaft sensor relearn?

Recommended Posts

Hi, so I had issues starting my 2011 Silverado 1500 with the 5.3. I was showing code P0341 and the truck would crank and crank but not start which I learned was an issue with the camshaft position sensor. I have now replaced that sensor, which believe me was a lot harder than it should be! (Bad engineering, stuck sensor, etc)

Anyhow truck starts now, but cranks longer than usual, as well as the tachometer reads zero. I am thinking I need to somehow relearn the new cam sensor as that is the only thing that has changed since the truck first experienced the no start issue. But I cannot find anything about a cam relearn, only crank?

any suggestions?

Verify the installation was proper.  Did you clear the codes and turn off the ignition for a minute?  Do you have a Tech-2 to run a live plot of the sensor?  It should track in line with the engine rpms.

Debris in engine oil, a bad camshaft reluctor wheel, timing chain or timing chain parts can also cause this.

There shouldn’t be a cam relearn, only crank from my experience. Have you tried disconnecting the battery?

I’ll try disconnecting the battery tonight.

Install was proper, pulled old sensor, and lubed up new sensor plugged in and bolted into place. I’ll try to clear codes again maybe they came back I never did check.

Im hoping none of the latter in your list are true. As they all sound expensive
