Towing engine temp

I have a Sierra with the 6.2l, the 10 speed transmission, and 3.23 gears. When towing my 7000lb travel trailer, my engine temperature will rise to about 230. It then drops to 210 before rising again. This cycle continues everytime I'm on the slightest incline. Has anyone noticed anything similar and is this normal? Not sure if it has to do with the active shutters or not? When I'm not towing, my engine temperature stays around 200.

I tow a 6K travel trailer, but I have the max tow.  No engine temp fluctuation.  Needle stays straight up.

The heaviest thing I tow is my mid sized fishing boat and no temp fluctuations. 6.2 10-speed with 3.42. (MAX tow)

Mine does the same ...  another post references some kind of louvers on certain trucks.

 

Mine goes from about 190 to 230 ...

 

So, it must be normal.

I appreciate the responses!  Although not across the board, I'm glad I'm not the only one and that it may be normal.

There are shutters behind the grill.   Max tow option deleted the shutters

My 2.7 has the shutters and stays completely stable regardless of outside temp or terrain when towing. I know my cooling system is quite a bit more complex than the V8 - but it still puts out a ton of heat with the turbo. I wonder if there as an adjustable calibration for the shutters for you guys?

 

I do know if you unplug them it will set a code, so it is aware of their position rather than just sending a blind electrical signal to them to open or close.
