Some people.....

Recommended Posts

Yesterday I was in my uncle's Pawn shop wiring up his stereo display. This guy probably 19-20 years old comes in. I noticed he was driving a 2-door 4x4 Tahoe. I told him he had a nice looking truck and he asked about mine parked out front. Well we started talking about them and how much we liked the 2-doors. He asked if I ever took mine in the mud. I told him not this one but I went a couple of times in the 95 I did have. I told him the 95 was Z-71, 3.73 and locker rear diff, and would go like crazy in the mud. OK NOW HERE IS WHERE IT GETS GOOD!!!! He tells me that he has a shift kit in his (which is a 95 BTW) and when he puts it into 4x4 and punchs it from standstill it would pop a wheelie!! Ok, the intelligent conversation ended there. Then he tells me how he painted the 2-tone on his with spray cans. Which I know is total BS the finish was way too good for that plus it had clear coat on it. If this guy could paint that good with Krylon he needs to open a body shop. I don't know why he would even lie about something like that, did he think it would impress me? After the wheelie comment I had been looking for an out......what's that you need help in the back??.....ok, coming......

I don't know about the wheelie thing with just a shift kit. Maybe with a 572 Crate engine. :jester:

But the Krylon thing.....I have seem some people do some amazing things with spraypaint. If you sand, primer, sand, primer, sand, primer, etc. and then go with light, even coats followed by Krylon clear coat....It will yield some pretty impressive results.

Of course, by the time you do all of that, 427 cans of Krylon cost more than a real paint job that will most likely be a lot better.

I would seriously doubt the legitimacy of his Krylon Klaim.....I would have asked him to prove the wheelie, and offered him a 20 if he did it. With 4Lo, and and shift kit.....It's pretty torquey....I might have to try a wheelie next time I'm off road....

Yeah me too! I have worked in and around body shops since I was 16 (just turned 23) and I can tell you this was not a Spray can jobber. My 95 wouldn't throw you back in the seat much less pop a wheelie :jester: Oh well, now I know to just say "Hey, what's up" next time and keep moving.

I knew a guy that worked as a salesman at a Ford dealership. This was in the mid 90s or so. Anyway, he claimed the new Mustangs had a system that detected wheelspin and transferred power to the front wheels "via the brakes". He also said the new Probes had a 32 valve v6. And that his Ford Ranger would beat my car in a drag race because "his was higher off the ground and it aided weight transfer". Lastly, his friend's Jetta would also beat my car because the Jetta was heavier. I don't think this guy was paying attention during Physics class.
