Side View Mirror Camera - add later?

So GMC offers the Trailer Camera package for $250 up front - but what if I bought my truck without the cameras, but want to add them later...

Is it something the dealer can do? or even I could add? - looks like the sockets are there in the bottom of the mirrors....

I honestly don't know much about this but was curious, so googled it. Read this. The trailer camera package appears to have some type of rear camera to see the hitch and a plug to connect an additional camera which is placed in the trailer. Again, not an expert but just what I saw below and from googling "gmc sierra trailer camera package". Good luck!

Yeah - the package comes with the 2 cameras and the hook up in the back for the behind-the-trailer camera...

Just wondering if maybe all the wiring is there already and just need to stick the camera modules in on the mirrors... wonder if it needs a SW update, or if SW just knows when cameras are present....

I put one in my 2017 and it worked perfectly, hoping they update for the 2019 New Body style that I just replaced it with (didn't get 4WD first time around)

Also wanting to add cameras to side mirrors. Thinking side mirror with surround cameras might be different, and that it is not possible to simply add to existing SLT T1 side mirrors? My side mirrors have a bottom led light, no camera socket. Then, if a mirror modification is possible, or if surround mirror unit were obtained, is existing wiring harness OK? Anyone have some experience on this?

My RST came with trailer camera option but the dealer said the cameras were extra and I had to order the cameras at $495 ea

I've bought my Silverado 1500 rst 2019 model truck just few weeks ago, my truck is lifted. My first insight is lack of visibility on the front side of the vehicle. It's super dangerous to not see what is in front of the truck. Talked with Chevy to get safety package, but it's not possible. They recommend me to put a dashcam to solve this issue which is not solve my problems since it's not showing what is in front of the bumper.

I've been doing research on this topic for a long time, looked at the all after market brands and cameras and new Silverado 2019-2020 comes with new Radio/Control system which has different cabling and harness then older models. New cameras are using LVDS low voltage differential signaling "https://lockdownsecurity.forumbee.com/t/3601lr/lvds-cameras-what-are-they-can-they-be-interfaced", connectors are different than coaxial cables.

The vendors that I talked (20 different brands) either have no idea around what is the difference or they are in a development phase for LVDS compatibility.

ETA for this at least 9 months, to be able to see some mature products we're talking about mid 2021.

Of course I cannot wait and put myself in risk, I decided to build my own system which is %100 isolated than embeded audio/control system until after market companies are published some products.

Front Camera:

I found a couple companies but the Rostra 250-8451 allows auto side camera display switching with turn signal use and front and rear cam by speed/direction. This seems to work flawlessly with the stock infotainment system. The module itself making this work is plug and play under the dash. It also allows hdmi input. I have found it available from $450-650 depending on retailer. You supply cams yourself or can buy them. About to buy it so will let you know how it goes in a couple weeks.

Bwobbles - I am curious to follow along to see if this solution works. I really want to add the 360 cameras to my truck, but have been told its not possible. What type of cameras are you getting?

Do you have any pictures of your monitor setup? I am thinking about doing something similar for a front camera and a trailer camera but I'm unsure of how/where to mount the monitor.

This doesn't seem to be available on the 2019s... has anybody been successful in adding side view cameras to their mirrors?

This can be added, but most likely you will need to update the VSP (video signal processor). Someone on here has already done it. I will see if I can find the link/post.
