automatic to manual transmission?

Recommended Posts

I have a 1990 GMCS15 Sierra Classic with a recently rebuilt Tech 4. I am interested in putting in a 4,5, or 6 speed manual transmission in to replace the automatic with overdrive originally installed. Does anybody have any idea of what I should look for in a manual swap and what would work? Thanks for any help.

There are a few guys over on gmt400.com that have done NV4500 and NV3500 swaps. Head over there and use the search. Lots of good info about what you need.

Thats alot to swap, perhaps consider marrying up a newer auto tranny that has 5 and 6 speeds in them. The manuals, you have to put in clutch pedal, all the hardware as well as tranny. Not sure if you want to dive into a pretty expensive swap?

Frank,

I would head to the Junkyards, there are still plenty of those trucks around with the manual transmissions, grab everything you need.

The 1990 S-trucks had 5 speeds i'm just not sure which one.

Good Luck

They had a T5, tons of info on the net about those.  And I agree, so many of these S trucks still out there, I would find a manual truck to build or piece together the best parts from both if a manual is wanted.
