2020 Silverado/Trailboss Questions

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, first time posting. Very interested in a 2020 Silverado, preferably in the Trailboss LT but I have some questions that hopefully you guys can shed some light into:

1. the difference between the LTZ package and Trailboss 2" lift and Ranchero shocks? Anything else? I mean the LTZ gets, hill decent, rear locker, skid plates, transfer case etc. Are there any other differences?

2. What are your thoughts/opinions between a locker that YOU can control (like in the FX4) compared to an automatic (once the wheel spin reaches a certain rpm it actives the rear locker)?

3. If your key fob breaks, battery dies, can you lock/unlock your doors or when your car battery dies, can you still get in the door, tailgate? can you get in the tailgate if you dont have your keyfob with you?

4. Has anyone put a cap on the bed with that little lip that comes off the top of the cab?I would love to see pictures.

5. Most importantly, what are your thoughts of the 5.3 mated to the 10 speed? Anyone have any first hand comparisons driving both? Any difference in mpg between the 8 spd and 10 spd?

Also, if you have the trailboss, any of you guys getting better than 16 mpg city? I have owned (and now outgrown) a Tacoma for the past 11 years with 2" lift and load E mud tires getting 12-15 mpg. Hoping to get the same or a LITTLE better with my next purchase.

Out of the Chevy, Dodge and ford I am leaning towards the trialboss. Hopefully you guys can help seal the deal!

Thanks for ANY input you guys can help out with!

Hi. I've owned my 2020 Trail Boss Lt 5.3 10 speed  for about a month now and have about 1200 miles on it so far. I've been very happy with it. I'm getting about 17 mpg around town and just over 20 on the interstate. The only mods I've done are install some N Fab step assists and a roll up tonneau cover.

I have the leather bucket seat package which for me has been very comfortable. I might be mistaken but as as far as differences between the LT and LTZ trims, with the LT you don't get power folding mirrors or memory position driver seat which would be nice. I'm sure there are some other minor differences but those are the ones I have noticed.

Hey there.  I have owned my 2019 LT Trail Boss since December.  Some slight differences in the 2020 but not many.  Here’s my two cents on your questions.

1. not much else.   Few more power goodies on the LTZ plus memory seats.

2. previously owned an FX4 2015 F-150.  If you’re a hardcore off roader ( ie: Rubicon/Moab style)  I could see a benefit, but the Trail Boss’s auto locker has worked every time I’ve ever needed it.

3. I know where you going with this.  Ford’s door keypad entry is great for all those kinds of issues, except for the dead vehicle battery. I honestly don’t know why all auto manufacturers don’t just copy it.  GM Fob does come with a door key inside it.  Also you could subscribe to the Onstar service if you’re truly worried about this.

4. never seen it

5.  Mine is the 5.3 with the 8 speed and the cylinder deactivation   Averaging about 15 city and 20 highway after 10k miles.
