Was wonderin why I couldnt use a 3.42 rear end from a later model year on my 08 1500.is it wheelbase shocks mounts abs active brake control?

Shock mounts are at a slightly different angle I believe and for sure the the ABS part. The earlier trucks do not have the ABS on the rear axle.

That's just gears, not an axle type.  The GMT900s used two different axle sizes on the 1500s, the 8.6 and 9.5 14-bolt.  The later K2s use two different 12-Bolt axles.  The track on the GMT900s is an inch or so wider than the older 800s.  Not sure about the K2s.  Stay within generations for the least amount of headaches.  Alternatively, you can pose this question over at the PerformanceTrucks forum, the guys that race them will know how to do it.
