300k miles, go for it?

I've had my eye on a truck on facebook marketplace for quite sometime. It is a 2004 silverado 4x4, has the 5.3 engine, looks extremely clean. My only issue with it, is that it has 300k miles. The owner says that the oil was changed every 5k miles, which he gives reason for me to believe, considering how well the truck looks taken care of. It has the six inch rough country lift and florida georgia line chrome wheels and oversize tires on it. I love the look of it. The tranny was rebuilt 7k miles ago, which is a sigh of relief. The truck is just extremely clean, and he has come down on the price the last 4 months, from 7k all the way to 5.5k right now. I live in Georgia if that says anything. Any input is helpful, just wanna know if I would be getting a good deal. I have never bought a truck with this many miles, and don't know what I'd be risking. Just wanna know what y'all think about buying a truck with high miles.

5.5 is still too high with that many miles.  I'm sure it's a great truck but still too expensive

My brother in law is frugal. He only buys GM. Large SUVs and pickups. He buys CPOs and low mileage used. He follows the maintenance schedule. His wife drives the first 180 to 200K. He then squeezes out what ever is left. In south Texas rust isn’t the problem they all still look good when he gives up on them. He just bought a 13 with 28K miles on it, he took over the last one with 200K. His truck with 280 he gave to his daughter to drive to college. It just had a new transmission. He had one other suburban that needed a rear end during his ownership. He’s 60 this has been his pattern the 45 years I’ve known him. With the truck ( it could be an exception) he loses confidence at 300K. I wouldn’t make it my only vehicle, I believe 3500$ may be ok. If I was willing to do my own repairs.

I don't think 5k is out of the question for any old 4x4 truck that is in good shape.

300k is brutal though...and "rebuilt transmission" could mean anything.   I would go through that thing with a fine toothed comb.

I would suggest $5k is still "beater" price range for a fully functioning no code throwing 4x4 truck.  Any opinions?   If it throws codes and needs work its probably 3k range.

Go for it, trying to sell an '07 with 169000 on it for $4995, lookers are expecting a pristine escalade for this price not a 13 yr old suburban, good to read some realistic people on here.

1964 Mercury. Female owner. Old school maintenance. Looks today like it did when she bought it.

260 V8 / C4 automatic.

Miles mean little IF...…...This girl changes oil conventional every 3K miles.

My last truck was a '00 Silverado, 5.3, Z71 package. We bought it around '07/'08. I can't remember but I don't think we paid more than $4k for it. I drove it daily until 3/2013. I had 400k miles on it. Our SIL then took the truck.  I bought my '02 Yukon that same month, with 125k. I am at 299k now. My husband just gave our teen his '04 Silverado with approx 269k miles. I don't think you would be making a bad investment but I don't know if I would pay that much.
