Advise on a lift for 38's.

I am restoring my father's 1996 SLE Sierra 1500.  So far I have had the frame media blasted and I covered it in por15 gloss black paint.    I want to do an 8 inch lift and I know the side factors involved...gearing down (ring and pinion) ...extended drive shaft...and other add one....it's been ten years since my father's passing and i don't want to get to invested in something that is to over the top....the truck has a 5.7 V8 vortec with 78,000 miles .....just asking some friendly advice from some who has time and an 8 yr old son I want to pass it on too.  Thanks for any advice you can give.

If that truck has a good body and frame on it, it will be keep its value.  May not be a super collectable truck but I think those body styles will only get more popular.  
 

78,000 sounds like a gem.  
 

You mention not wanting to get too invested, but you seem to have a good grasp of what you need.   How is your funding for the project?   I know in my case, Ive got conflict with spending $$ on a project truck.
