transmissiom comparison silverado vs. camaro

Are the 6L80 transmissions the same in a 2018 silverado & the 2015 camaro ss 6.2. The camaro trans runs 12 degrees cooler. Do they have different trans thermostats. I have driven both over the same course, same out door temp.

Remember that the Camaro is significantly lighter than the Silverado. The Silverado is paired 6L80 with the 5.3, the 6.2 is an 8 speed truck. So the inputs are different, with more RPMs from the 5.3 than a 6.2. My only experience driving a 6.2 was in an automatic Corvette, and unless you were really nailing it and scooting, the RPMs were super low.

Also, I believe they are different. But I'm not sure exactly how.

Very similar transmissions. Minor things like the possible case changes and input/output shaft changes for each specific application but the majority is what is said above.

Weight difference is one and so is the calibration differences. The camaro uses a much different shifting strategy and torque converter lock up settings.

I recall driving my dad's 2008 Corvette 6.2 auto, I believe it was 6 speed but not sure.

I was barely at 1000 RPM doing 55, maybe 1100-1200. In town and capped at 45, even lower.

So of course the transmission temp is low. Those light cars don't weigh near what a 1500 does. Fluid temp will always be higher in a heavier vehicle.

the ultra low rpm at speed are a big reason the corvettes get such good gas mileage..

even around town, my dad gets 25+mpg in his 2010 vette.

2014 had a 6.2 and a 6l80

i have one

as far as the OP is concerned, the trucks transmission thermostat opens up around 190-200. And unless you’re on a race track, or towing heavy, the transmission temp is going to be between 190-200 no matter what.

keep in mind, 2015 camaro is LS based, and 2014+ is LT based. Entirely different platform. I don’t think many people cross reference the transmissions since the platforms are not compatible

The difference between how they function is nothing short of amazing

rented a camaro ss with the 8 speed, and drove numerous 8speed 6.2 trucks for loaners

the shifting on the camaro seemed like it was 10x faster
