Anyone else experiencing a ticking sound most noticeably at drivers side of engine? I notice mostly at a drive thru or when I leave truck running and get out for something. I've read somewhere that this is normal? Just started noticing it the past week or so. I'm at 9200 miles.

Gas or diesel?

6.6 Dmax 'tick' is normal.

I don't know what noises the 6.6 gas makes or doesn't make.

If it's a gas engine:

Noise more pronounced under the engine than above with the hood open?

Louder on the left (driver's) side?

Appears after the engine is warm and only at idle?

Mines ticked since day one. I’ve never owned a diesel and thought it was normal based on what I’ve read online. Odd that yours only just started now...

Is it a somewhat constant tick?  The DEF injector on these make noise 99% of the time that the truck is running.  That is 99% most likely what you are hearing.

I've noticed the click as well on my Denali 2500 with the diesel.  I have noticed that it's usually doing it after driving it.  It's a real steady click.  After idling for a couple of minutes, the clicking will slow its pace and stop.  I've speculated that it was the exhaust expanding and contracting with less heat after driving.  The DEF makes more sense now that I hear it though.

This is my fourth Duramax, I had a 2010, 2013, 2015, and now a 2022; however, this is my first L5P. After about a week of owning it I noticed a tic sound coming from the passenger side of the engine. It only does it on de-acceleration such as when slowing down. To me it sounds like a lifter or two tapping. I am a former ASE certified Master Technician, but diesels are a new breed for me as far as working on them. To be honest I've been a little lazy in trying to diagnose it myself and just thought I would look online to see if anyone has experienced it as well. I run high quality oil in my vehicles... Amsoil.
