Loose Steering Wheel?

Recommended Posts

Anyone ever experience play in their steering wheel?  Not between the wheels and the steering but in the actual steering wheel itself.

If I grab the wheel at the 2:00 and 8:00 positions, I can rock the steering wheel ever so slightly back in forth, almost with a faint clicking sensation.  Is there any way to tighten the steering wheel?

There's ujoints in the column that could be bad or it could be a bad bushing. There's no real way to tighten the steering wheel. Also there's no reason for a steering wheel to loosen up. They are pressed on and held in place with a lock nut. It's possible that there was work done on it and not reassembled properly.

Google this silverado steering wheel click site:www.gm-trucks.com look though some of the other threads and see if the noise you hear is the same (common problem 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, & SUVs) My 015 is leveled with Pro Crap struts (some people/stealerships claim it’s because trucks are leveled) and I can make it click been that way since 3k now has 40k on it. After reading though most of the threads on here I decided it wasn’t worth trying to get them to fix it since a fair amount of people said it never got fixed or the noise came back in time.

That is funny, I take it you are a happy customer, with lots of great reviews about the products.

Thanks, seems like a lot of folks had the clicking issue while turning the wheel.  I can move mine laterally ever so slightly.  (Maybe will take a video if someone is interested). Seems like it may be a bad bushing as mentioned above.  I’ll have to keep an eye on it.
