Exhaust manifold bolts

I have a 2011 5.3 Silverado 117,000 miles. Both rear exhaust manifold bolts are broken. What are the best bolts to replace them with?

Brand new stock ones will likely out live the truck.

 

Or you can go with aftermarket bolts or stud kits from ARP or similar.

I replaced mine with generic grade 10.9 bolts, with a washer and lock-washer on each one.  So far, they've been good for about 5 years...

I called the mechanic that figured out the intermittent air conditioner problem. He quoted me $300 to repair! He said that they do a lot of them.

That is a common issue and given the area and how difficult it can be to get access to that is not a bad price.

Ask that they replace all the manifold bolts while they are at it.

Dorman also makes a nice zinc-plated 10.9 flanged bolt that is identical in appearance to factory. But, your mechanic will likely have his options/ preference.

how did you get the old bolts out? i have an 05 2500hd 6.0, there are 2 broken bolts one on the drivers side closest  to the fire wall (last one), one on passengers side in the middle of the manifold. i would like to replace all of them. thanks!

Most times you weld a nut to what's left of the stud, then back it out. Then there is always drilling it and using an extractor

And if you can't get the bolts at the back end of the heads out (as it's difficult to drill/get an extractor on them), you can get clamps that bolt into existing threaded holes in the head, that will clamp the exhaust manifold down.  There is a different one for each end of the head.
