Adding OEM power items

I am helping my friend with some mods he wants to do on his 2005 Base model extended cab Silverado.  He bought a decently loaded truck as parts donor with the same body.  This truck has the following features that he would like to move over to his base model. The Body and suspension is not worth saving on the donor vehicle.  It even came with a plow.  

  • power mirrors
  • windows
  • door locks
  • Door panel courtesy lights
  • compass mirror (maybe auto dim)
  • Radio

 I can tell already that this will not be a simple part swap.   I found some diagrams on Autozone showing that each door has module for controlling most of these options.  I have done some searching and i see Aftermarket comes ups a lot for some of these. Considering we have an entire donor vehicle to pull parts from, Can this be done?  

I have experience adding some of these options in other vehicles and have been lucky that most have the existing body harness wiring from the the factory.    What kind of work are we looking at?  

My plan was to pull off the door panels of the donor vehicle and check for the existence of a door control module in each.   I also need to expose the door jamb connectors of the recipient truck to see what circuits existing in the body harness.  I think we may have to cut out some associated body side wiring from the donor and run new circuits from some.  My overarching concern is that I would need to program a Door module to run some of these options.

Can anyone provide some guidance?   Both are from model year 2005.

It sounds like both trucks are the same, extended cab, do they also have the same engine?  If they have the same engine as well, I would suggest just swapping the cab harnesses, might also need to do the engine harness as well, and use the donor trucks ecm & bcm.  Probably also need to swap the radio, as they are vin locked as well.  Might also need to do the other computers (like the abs one) as well.

 

The computers are programmed for the features, and you don't have to go through the wiring diagrams and hack together a working harness.

 

If the engines are different, I would still consider doing the above, and then get the ecm tuned for the engine in the truck, as it's likely easier and cheaper than trying to get a dealer to reflash the computers with options the truck didn't ship with.  But I would first make sure I found someone who has shown they can do that programming before doing the work...

To answer your question about the engines,

 

Engines are the "same". Both are 5.3L, one is flex fuel and the other is gasoline. We're not looking to swap motors, just the power door options.

 

Unfortunately, the door colors are different and the owner is not OK with swapping the entire door. I would like to help him wire up the windows, mirrors, locks up on his work truck.

 

 

 

The "parts car" is the 2005 LS.  The power train, and body work is shot.  The frame is no good and won't pass inspection.

 

We want to move the door power options to his 2005 W/T.  I am looking at the diagrams.   Driver and passenger Door modules include connections to the class2 serial bus.   It can probably be added to Splice pack 205. However,  will the work truck handle addition modules? It has been brought up that programming is needed.    My first thought is to isolate and power the door modules with no connection to the existing W/T serial bus.

 

Starting with the Power door Locks.

The LS "parts car" has YE9 in the RPO list. This seems to have most the logic in each respective door module. The diagrams on autozone have different diagram for YE9 and Except YE9.   I will do my best to gather the diagrams and post them.  I see there are relays in the I/P fuse block and i can work with that.   Non YE9 lock controls don't make use of a door module but instead use the BCM for control logic

    • Hey everyone, I recently had an issue with my 07 2500HD GMT900. My DRL’s stay on at all times. Right front turn and right mirror turn signal indicator stay on solid at all times. By “at all times” I mean the only way to make them go off is disconnecting the battery. I tore the headlight assemblies out, tried disconnecting the harnesses to eliminate bad wiring at the harness, I unplugged the headlight switch, no change and the mirror turn signal still stayed on. My first thoughts were : Bad bulb and/or socket somewhere, under hood fuse panel bad, bcm bad, tail light or trailer wiring problem, or some random short to power in the harness.  Possibly a bad ground but unlikely. I had a big clue in the fuse panel, it had a burnt smell. I started pulling every fuse that had to do with DRL or right turn/park lamp. Nothing made the right directional turn off but pulling the DRL2 fuse made the DRL’s go out.  After studying wiring diagrams, I found that both problems had that fuse panel in common, the bcm also controls both problems but knowing the fuse panel had a burnt smell I removed and disassembled the fuse panel and found a little corrosion on the printed circuit board.  I ordered a new fuse panel from Amazon for like $260. When it arrived I installed it, and put everything back together, the problem was fixed. I figured the fuse panel needed to be replaced anyway so that was a logical place to start. Hopefully this story helps someone in the future. Regretfully I didn’t scan for codes before I did everything.
    • That stinks. I’m sitting on the side of the road right now with the same issue. Never had an issue before taking it in for the ground strap recall. Now I’m outside of warranty and they’ll probably want $200 just to diagnose what they already “fixed”.

However, the benefit of these oils accrues to the car manufacturers. If their vehicles can save 1–2% fuel by using a special fuel economy lubricant, then that OEM can drastically reduce the amount of fines they need to pay.”   I liked this and the following paragraph as well but it’s really only touching the beginning of the benefits OEMs see from spec’ing these oils. After you factor in “out of warranty” service work and new car sales when these engines fail before their time, it’s a good racket for them. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you!
