Oh no. No no no. The 6 speeds in my generation truck (2010) are great.

The new ones have challenges.

8 speed is highly reliable. It will shift like a teenage girl learning stick and vibrate when you haven’t changed the fluid but I’ve never seen one go bad before. EVER.

Maybe I’ll do a small write up on what happens on the new 6 speeds if someone is interested

That would be great. I have the 6 speed in my 18. Can be clunky from time to time with occasional hard downshifts from 2-1 when slowing.

Your clunking 2-1 shift is normal for that transmission. It’s using engine braking for as long as possible to increase MPG.

The 6 speed has an issue where the torque converter shudders. Then it causes the fluid pump to wobble in the bell housing and dig into the housing surface, which sends medal at a high psi throughout the transmission. Requires complete rebuild. I’ve done a few. An 8 speed can shudder until the cows come home it won’t hurt it.

With that said, haven’t seen a failure yet with those who maintain their transmission with good flush intervals, we recommend 45k intervals. And we live in a hilly area.

Flush your fluids!

Hope this was informative

Hi Tlaw91

Can you elaborate on the issues you have seen with 8 speed?  it needs a flush and a valve body, roof antenna, sunroof close out panel will fall off, wireless charging harness, door latches. I recently bought 2017 Denali suv with 6.2 liter and so worried about what can go wrong with all the technology this truck has. Previously had 2001 Denali and loved it! No issues other than some rust, lol.

You are telling the secretes like FordTechMakuloco.  I believe Ford asked him to stop filming at their shop so he quit and started a private practice called BSG Auto Repair.

What type of flush do you recommend for a truck at 50-70,000 miles? Some have said that a pan drop and filter change is enough. A buddy of mine recommended a flush and refill with BG products.
