Upgrade i03 Radio

I have a 2017 Silverado WT with the io3 radio and no backup camera, although it is prewired to accept a backup camera (I  have confirmed this)

 

I would like to upgrade my radio to the 7" i0B or the 8" i05 and add a factory backup camera. 

 

I have seen a lot of conflicting information about if this is possible and what is required (up to and including "flashing" the truck to accept the different head unit.)

 

I'm looking for someone who has done this before or someone who know how to give me step by step instructions on what I need to buy to install this upgrade myself.

I appreciate the reply, but they are talking about a different upgrade. Are you familiar with the steps to upgrade the io3 to an iob?

This is what I have so far:

1. I used my VIN to determine what part numbers I needed for each specific part and ensure compatibility. I used GMpartsdirect for this. I found the following part numbers:
   1. IOB Radio Module w/o satellite (i  didn't want XM): 42481571
   2. 7" Display Unit IOB (screen): 42430301
   3. New control switch for IOB radio: 4251664
   4. New mount bracket for IOB Radio: 2334594
   5. New trim bezel for IOB radio: 23472965
   6. Reverse Camera & wire (my truck is prewired): 84062896
   7. Tailgate handle: 84203904 (replaces part # 84042894)
2. I searched for all these parts used on ebay. Mix of new and used. Total cost of parts is $300. I have the donor VINs from all used parts
3. Local dealer will flash for $132
4. Only thing I am missing is a new radio wiring harness that will connect the IOB radio to what I have. I don't know if there is a GM part number for this or if it's something I have to get special made from someone like GM Navigation. 
5. Total cost looks like $532 + whatever the wiring harness costs

 

Do these steps look right? Am I missing anything?

Ah ok. I figured you would still get the help you needed from wams. Doesn't seem like you need much besides programing and now a wiring harness. You mind posting your final results?

Don't mind at all...I found what I think is a wiring harness that is made for this upgrade. GM Navi sells it for $325 which is steeeeeep but i guess that's what you have to pay for the convenience? I'm still not exactly sure why i couldn't just use an OEM harness that came with 17 Silverado originally equipped with the IOB. That being said, I'm having trouble finding that harness. Initial thought is that maybe it's a part of a much larger harness and the harness GM Navi is selling is an adapter to that so you don't have to tear your dashboard apart.

I thought about this upgrade and it really seems to be the way to go. Honestly I'm like why not. Gm did change wiring harness for the seats and doors, so i can see them doing the same for the radio.

That would bring my total cost to $857. Still cheaper than the $1,500 GM navi quoted me for the whole kit. Only downside is having to use some used parts (module , control switch, and screen) and the time at the dealer getting it flashed

Getting used parts really isn't all that big of a deal to me. Honestly, it makes more sense than trying to buy stuff brand new.
