Truck starts on second try

I have a 2010 Silverado that sat for 2 weeks without being ran. It wont start on first attempt but runs on 2nd attempt. Seems like it doesnt want to run very good for a few minutes and then it runs fine. Also started making a consistent knocking sound on driver side of engine when this problem started. My check engine light came on as well. I haven't done anything to it yet. Trying to get an idea as to what wrong before I touch it.

You will need to get the codes read that turned on the Check Engine Light before we can provided you with an educated guess. 

 

If you do not have a code reader/scanner of your own, go to an Autozone, Advance Auto Parts, or O'Reilly Auto Parts as they will hook up a scanner free of charge and tell you what the codes are.  Autozone will also print them out on a sheet along with what are the most likely causes of the code being set.

Also, try a 5 second key on before starting. If it works, then fuel pump/check valve problems

Alright so it turned out to be the fuel pump. Doesnt explain my knocking sound on the driver side of my engine. A friend of mine said it sounded like it was coming from my flywheel. Another says it's common fo these trucks to make that sound. I pulled my push rods and they looked good. I was thinking about pulling my plug on the oil pan and run a magnet through the oil to see if metal shavings come out.
