How to remove old wax?

Is it true by using dishwasher detergent you will wipe off old wax? If so, would it do any harm to the clearcoat?

thanks

I've heard Dawn is the best. It'll strip the old was right off. I don't beleive it will hurt the paint.

Yep, I use dawn dishsoap to wash the vehicle to clean any old wax off.

Follow up with a claybar to clean the paint :)

There is a product by Maguires called "paint cleaner" (not 100% sure on name?) it's part of a 3 part process. I use it once a year to remove the old wax, clean the paint and then build up the wax again. I apply it with my polisher and a terrycloth pad. Slow speed, and it works great! The paint squeaks like clean dishes when it's done. No more water spots or bugs or bird droppings marks. Really good product.

Dawn does a good job stripping most wax and all the oils off, 3M makes a product called Adhesive and Wax Remover, than also works very well, and claying will remove any carnauba wax product. Side note that Dawn will not remove Zaino wax.
