Will 1996 k1500 350 engine fit in my 1998 k1500 Suburban?

I'm guessing yes, but I want to make sure to before tearing the old one out.

Both units are k1500, and both have basically the same options just the suburban is 98 and the doner truck is 96.

For a quick interchange i went to car-part .com and searched for engines for the burban.  It appeared there were a few 96's on the list but I dont know how accurate that type of a search are.  I would be taking the accessories from the 98 and bolting them on the 96 engine too.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

The engines are the same but the PCMs are different.  You will probably need to check to see if there are any differences in the harness unless you just plan on using the 96 block and swapping everything from your 98 over to it.

i believe the transmission has a different bolt pattern , the bellhousing on my 98 is a bolt on to the transmission so you might be able to swap out bell housing, other than that and pcm , i believe your good

I planned on using the 96, doing head gaslet's and anything else I could do easily while it's out and using the accessories and electronics from the 98 to do the swap.

As long as it will fit I should be good, right?

The transmission does not have a different bolt pattern, it is the same on all the Vortec 5.7 engines from 96-03.  However, the transmission may not have the same sensors and wiring, so that will need to be checked.  I know there is a lot of variability in the 4L60e during the 90s and a lot of them have different sensor and management of the shifting/converter.

Should be, although you may need to check the wiring to verify it matches if you use anything from the 98, like the instrument cluster or transmission.  Those things may not wire directly up to the 96 wiring harness due to the PCM differences.

Ok I plan on using the engine only in the 98, so the harness and sensors should be from the 98 as well.  Finding a spot to plug them into the 96 block might be a problem?

If you are swapping over the 98 harness and sensors, you probably won't have an issue.  It would still be a good idea to get a 96 and 98 full wiring schematic and compare the 2 to see if there are any additional sensors or different wiring.  Keeping the 98 PCM and harness will definitely make it easier to deal with the instrumentation and the transmission though.
